Nationals recalled INF Jeff Kobernus from Triple-A Syracuse.

The 24-year-old Kobernus is off to a great start, hitting .333/.378/.420 with a homer, 20 RBI and 21 steals through his first 43 games at Syracuse. He also provides the Nationals with versatility on the bench with his ability to play up to six different positions. He could be worth a look for those in need of speed in deep NL-only formats.

Brett Gardner smacked a two-run homer in Friday's 9-4 win over the Rays.

It was his fourth home run of the season and his first since April 26. The 29-year-old hasn't been as active on the basepaths as usual, as he only has nine stolen bases in 47 games, but he's currently on pace to reach new career-highs in home runs and RBI.

Roberto Hernandez was touched up for five runs over four innings Friday in a loss to the Yankees.

Hernandez completed six innings in six out of his first seven starts, but he was pulled after two innings last time out and had another early exit Friday night. He gave up six hits (including a two-run homer to Brett Gardner) and three walks in the loss and has now allowed eight long balls over his last five starts. With an ugly 5.73 ERA on the year, he shouldn't be trusted in most fantasy leagues.

David Adams went 2-for-5 with two runs scored Friday against the Rays.

Adams has been a pleasant surprise as a stopgap option at third base for the Bombers, hitting .323 (10-for-31) with two homers, two doubles and three RBI in eight games. Keep running him out there in AL-only leagues, but Kevin Youkilis (back) appears on track to return from the disabled list late next week.

Curtis Granderson will miss a minimum of four weeks after suffering a fractured knuckle on his left pinkie on Friday.

Granderson sustained the injury when he was hit by a pitch during the fifth inning of Friday's game against the Rays. It's a tough blow for the Yankees, who will turn back to Ichiro Suzuki and Brennan Boesch to carry the load while Granderson is sidelined.
May 24 - 10:20 PM

Matt Joyce (hamstring) was 1-for-4 with an RBI double and a run scored in his return to action Friday.

Joyce left Tuesday's game with a tight hamstring and sat out Wednesday. The 28-year-old is batting .252/.336/.488 with eight home runs, 20 RBI and an .824 OPS through 40 games this season and should continue to be a useful option in deeper mixed fantasy leagues.
May 24 - 10:19 PM

Jeff Karstens has been shut down after feeling pain in his right shoulder during his throwing program on Friday.

Karstens was initially expected to return to the Pirates by early June, but it looks like that timetable will need to be pushed back now. It's also unclear whether he'll work as a starter or reliever once he does make his way back.

Nationals designated RHP Yunesky Maya for assignment.

The move was made to open a spot for Jeff Kobernus on the active roster. The once highly-hyped Cuban defector, the 31-year-old Maya owns a career 5.80 ERA and 1.58 WHIP over 59 major league innings. He's unlikely to attract much interest from other teams.
