Kennys Vargas (foot) is no longer using crutches and will not undergo further testing.

However, his left foot remains sore. Between injury and his World Baseball Classic participation, Vargas has received only 15 Grapefruit League at-bats (and gotten just one hit). It's looking like ByungHo Park will probably open the season as the Twins' primary designated hitter.

Eduardo Nunez (shoulder) is back in the Giants' lineup Sunday.

Nunez has been dealing with soreness in his right shoulder all camp and had a cortisone shot Wednesday. He's in the designated hitter spot Sunday but hopefully should be ready to resume third base duties soon. Nunez is optimistic he'll be ready to go on Opening Day, but it probably can't be considered a given.

Cardinals chairman Bill DeWitt Jr. said Saturday that the club is willing to offer Yadier Molina a contract extension to where he "would certainly be one of the highest-paid catchers."

Molina has set an Opening Day deadline for extension talks and if a deal isn't worked out by then he plans to decline his portion of a $15 million mutual option for 2018 and become a free agent. The two sides have had preliminary talks and are expected to get together again in the next few days. Molina will turn 35 in July and the Cards have top catching prospect Carson Kelly almost ready, but both sides would like to work something out, with DeWitt saying the team is "prepared to make a significant offer to keep him here. We’d love to have him stay."

Tim Beckham was scratched from Sunday's lineup due to an irritated hip flexor.

Beckham suffered the injury on Saturday. That he was originally in the lineup suggests it's a day-to-day thing. If healthy, Beckham is slated to be the Rays' Opening Day shortstop with Matt Duffy (heel) still sidelined.

Alex Cobb was scratched from a scheduled start in a minor league game Sunday due to lower back tightness.

It's obviously not ideal this close to Opening Day. There's no word yet on whether this could possible affect Cobb's ability to start the third game of the season as scheduled, but the Rays could have more on his status later Sunday. Cobb holds a 3.95 ERA over four starts this spring.

Anthony Gose will begin throwing bullpen sessions as a conversion to pitcher is considered.

Gose will play the outfield for Triple-A Toledo, but he could also eventually get into games as a pitcher if he looks good in side sessions. The 26-year-old threw in the mid-90s in high school.

Jhonny Peralta (knee) could return to game action Monday.

Peralta exited Saturday's game after fouling a ball off his left knee, but X-rays came back clean and he'll be fine. He'll open the season as the Cardinals' starting third baseman.

John Gant (groin) could be sidelined for the next week.

Which means his spring training is over. Gant impressed this spring with a 1.50 ERA over seven appearances before tweaking his groin Saturday. Once healthy, he'll be part of Triple-A Memphis' rotation. The righty will get a shot with the Cardinals at some point, whether it's as a starter or reliever.
