Michael Pineda (forearm) will play catch Wednesday.

It will be the first time he's done any throwing since being diagnosed last week with a Grade 1 right flexor muscle strain. Yankees general manager Brian Cashman on Tuesday said that Pineda will not return until September. "I don’t have control for that," Pineda said. "... It’s a long process for starting pitching and we have to do (it)."

Brian McCann tweaked his left knee during Tuesday's game.

McCann was shifting to block a pitch in the seventh inning when he said his knee "stretched a little bit" when he pushed off. He remained in the game but was moved from catcher to first base. No tests are planned as of now. "I’m just hoping I wake up tomorrow and it’s not stiff," McCann said Tuesday.

Andrelton Simmons (thumb) is hoping to return to the Braves' lineup before the end of the week.

Out with a bone bruise in his right thumb, Simmons was able to throw and field ground balls prior to Tuesday's game but has yet to resume swinging a bat. "(Trainer Jeff Porter) says if you see a bat in his hands, hit him over the head with it," manager Fredi Gonzalez said. "But he’s getting better."

Rockies sent LHP Aaron Laffey outright to Triple-A Albuquerque.

He predictably cleared waivers after being removed from the 40-man roster. Laffey will stick around as a depth guy.
Aug 5 - 8:52 AM

Cubs sent C Taylor Teagarden outright to Triple-A Iowa.

He cleared waivers after being designated for assignment. Teagarden will stick around for organizational depth but isn't going to be needed unless injuries strike.
Aug 5 - 8:50 AM

Tigers recalled LHP Matt Boyd from Triple-A Toledo.

Boyd will make his Tigers debut on Wednesday against the Royals. The young southpaw was knocked around in two starts earlier this season but boasts a 1.65 ERA in 19 outings between Double- and Triple-A. He's worth a shot in AL-only leagues.
Aug 5 - 8:46 AM

Mike Moustakas (knee) had a single in four plate appearances in his return to action Tuesday.

Moustakas hadn't played since having to leave Saturday's game following a hit by pitch in his knee. He should be OK moving forward.
Aug 5 - 8:40 AM

Pablo Sandoval (forearm) belted a solo homer in one of his four plate appearances in his return to the lineup Tuesday.

Sandoval hadn't started since last Thursday due to a bruised left forearm. He's hitting a disappointing .259/.305/.385 with nine longballs and 35 RBI this season.
