Brewers activated INF Jonathan Villar from the 10-day disabled list.

Villar landed on the disabled list with a back strain earlier this month, but he made it through a brief rehab assignment with no issues while going 8-for-13. The Brewers will have to hope that he can keep it going in his return to the active roster. Villar has put up a disappointing .213/.283/.342 batting line so far this season. Eric Sogard could cut into his playing time if he continues to struggle.

Brewers activated OF Ryan Braun from the 10-day disabled list.

Braun, who has been out for a month with a calf strain, went 2-for-8 with a homer during a brief minor league rehab stint with Class A Wisconsin. The 33-year-old returns to a .262/.350/.524 batting line with seven home runs and 19 RBI over 30 games.

Brewers designated INF Nick Franklin for assignment.

Franklin gets the boot with Jonathan Villar and Ryan Braun coming back from the disabled list. The 26-year-old was claimed off waivers from the Rays at the end of spring training, but he batted just .195/.258/.317 with two homers and 10 RBI through 53 games during his tenure with Milwaukee.

Rays released C Derek Norris.

Norris was designated for assignment last week with Wilson Ramos on the verge of being activated. The 28-year-old was batting just .201/.258/.380 with nine homers through 53 games, but he shouldn't be out of work for long.
Jun 27 - 3:12 PM

Rays optioned INF Daniel Robertson to Triple-A Durham.

The move clears a spot for the newly-acquired Adeiny Hechavarria. Robertson was batting .224/.314/.365 with five homers and 16 RBI through 58 games as a rookie.

Addison Russell (shoulder) is out of the Cubs' lineup again on Tuesday.

Russell was able to pinch hit on Monday, but his shoulder apparently isn't 100 percent just yet. Javier Baez will cover shortstop duties while Tommy La Stella plays second and Jeimer Candelario starts at third. Kris Bryant will play right field.

Anthony Rizzo is back in the leadoff spot for Tuesday's game against the Nationals.

Rizzo hit second Monday with Wellington Castillo getting a shot out of the leadoff spot, but he's back in there for Tuesday's game. Rizzo is hitting .333/.400/.714 with four homers and 11 RBI in 11 games out of the leadoff spot.

Indians recalled RHP Shawn Armstrong from Triple-A Columbus.

Armstrong was just sent down on Monday, but he's back with Austin Jackson hitting the DL. The 26-year-old compiled a 5.02 ERA and 14/6 K/BB ratio over 14 1/3 innings with the big club this season. He'll operate in middle relief.
