Aroldis Chapman is expected to make two appearances this week in the Gulf Coast League before joining the Yankees next Monday.

Chapman has been looking sharp in extended spring training games at the Yankees' complex in Tampa, Florida and he should roll through a pair of innings in the GCL. Yankees manager Joe Girardi reiterated Tuesday that Chapman will take over as the team's closer right away when he returns May 9 from his domestic violence suspension. Dellin Betances and Andrew Miller will work in setup roles.

Ben Revere (oblique) is on track to rejoin the Nationals this weekend in Chicago.

Revere is playing in his fifth rehab game Tuesday at Triple-A Syracuse, though he's yet to go a full nine innings. The speedy center fielder has been sidelined since the first game of the 2016 regular season because of a right oblique strain. Michael Taylor and Jayson Werth figure to lose playing time upon Revere's return to Washington's outfield mix.

Bronson Arroyo is now throwing side-arm or three-quarters in a final attempt to stave off retirement.

"Because it hurts if he gets on top," Nationals manager Dusty Baker explained Tuesday. "So we’re taking our time. And if not, if nothing else, he’s a good guy to have in your organization." Arroyo was re-signed to a minor league contract in late March and is currently rehabbing a torn rotator cuff at the Nationals' spring training complex in Viera, Florida. There's no exact timetable.

Danny Valencia (hamstring) will play one more rehab game with High-A Stockton on Wednesday.

If all goes well, he will fly with the A's to Baltimore on Thursday and come off the disabled list Friday when first eligible. Valencia has been on the disabled list since April 20 because of a left hamstring strain, with Chris Coghlan doing most of the filling in at third base.

Yovani Gallardo has begun a strengthening program for his injured right shoulder.

It's the first significant rehab step for Gallardo, who's been on the disabled list since April 23 with right shoulder and bicep tendinitis. "He's doing good," Orioles manager Buck Showalter said Tuesday. "I'm very optimistic on the return we're going to get on some of the things he's doing. He's moving toward throwing before too long." Gallardo is still probably 3-4 weeks away from a possible activation date.

Travis d'Arnaud is still resting and receiving treatment on his strained right rotator cuff.

He has not resumed throwing and there's no timetable for that yet. "I can't predict that," manager Terry Collins said Tuesday. "A lot of times you come in the morning, and if he's feeling good a couple days in a row, they might start getting him on a throwing program. But right now, he's still just getting treatment." This absence for d'Arnaud might last through most or all of May.

Robbie Erlin needs Tommy John surgery.

Erlin was placed on the disabled list on April 21 with discomfort in his left elbow and further testing revealed a partial UCL tear. He's going to miss the rest of the 2016 season and the early part of 2017. Erlin, a 25-year-old former top prospect, holds a 4.54 ERA, 1.26 WHIP, and 109/35 K/BB ratio in 148 2/3 career major league frames.
May 3 - 7:13 PM

Blue Jays manager John Gibbons said Tuesday that Darwin Barney will begin platooning with Ryan Goins at second base.

Goins is batting just .160/.200/.235 in 85 plate appearances this season and is probably going to sit against left-handed pitchers moving forward. Barney isn't much of a hitter either, but he is excellent defensively. Devon Travis (shoulder) is still a couple weeks away.
