Cubs transferred RHP Jacob Turner from the 15-day disabled list to the 60-day disabled list.

The move clears a spot on the 40-man roster for Gonzalez Germen. Turner is expected to miss the first couple months of the season with a mild right flexor strain and bone bruise in his right elbow.

Cubs purchased the contract of RHP Gonzalez Germen from Triple-A Iowa.

Germen had been unscored upon in his first four appearances at Iowa. He'll give the Cubs' taxed bullpen another arm.
Apr 19 - 1:24 PM

Cubs optioned OF Matt Szczur to Triple-A Iowa.

Szczur's playing time has been limited, as he's picked up two hits in just 10 at-bats. The Cubs are adding another relief arm in Gonzalez German in his place.

Jake Lamb is not in the Diamondbacks' lineup Sunday.

He's on the bench in favor of Aaron Hill even with the D'Backs facing a righty (Tim Hudson). Lamb is hitting a blistering .414/.514/.690 with one homer and nine RBI this season. Tuffy Gosewisch is also sitting out, with Jordan Pacheco getting a start behind the plate.

Twins general manager Terry Ryan said in a radio interview Sunday that Ricky Nolasco (elbow) has been cleared to begin a rehab assignment.

He was given the go-ahead after getting through a bullpen session Sunday with no issues. It's not clear at this point how many starts Nolasco will require, but the right-hander shouldn't need more than one or two outings. His first will come on Saturday at Low-A Cedar Rapids. Trevor May is filling in with Nolasco on the shelf.
Apr 19 - 1:16 PM

Brad Miller is not in the Mariners' lineup Sunday.

It's simply a day of rest. Willie Bloomquist is taking Miller's spot at shortstop Sunday, while Mike Zunino is getting a breather behind the plate in favor of Jesus Sucre.

Mitch Moreland (elbow) remained out of the Rangers' lineup Sunday.

Moreland is dealing with a minor elbow injury that could require surgery, although a decision has not yet been made. Prince Fielder is in the designated hitter spot in his place, with Adam Rosales covering first base.
Apr 19 - 1:09 PM

Brandon Belt is starting Sunday's game versus the Diamondbacks in left field.

It's his first start at the position since 2012, as Giants manager Bruce Bochy is obviously willing to shake things up in an effort to get his struggling offense going. Buster Posey is starting at first base Sunday, while Andrew Susac is behind the plate.
