ESPN's Jerry Crasnick reports that the Blue Jays "have gotten some feelers" on Jose Bautista.

There are some hurdles to a potential trade, though, the first of which is that Bautista is hitting a disappointing .227/.340/.402 with 16 home runs this season and just .197/.312/.338 since June 1. He also has 10-and-5 rights and thus can veto any deal. However, while the Jays no doubt would have to pick up a chunk of what remains of his $18 million salary for this season to make a trade work, some contender might think it's worth taking a shot that Bautista can slug for a couple months for them. It shouldn't cost too much to acquire him.

Kris Bryant (finger) is not in the Cubs' lineup Friday.

Bryant managed to avoid a major injury when he hurt his left pinkie on a head-first slide Wednesday, but he remains sore. Javy Baez is filling in at third base.

Alex Reyes (elbow) began a throwing program Wednesday.

Reyes is simply making throws from one knee at this point, but it's a big first step as he works his way back from February Tommy John surgery. The young right-hander is expected to be ready for the beginning of next season.

ESPN's Jerry Crasnick reports that the Indians have expressed interest in Asdrubal Cabrera.

It sounds like he could be more of a fallback option if they're not able to work out a trade for a marquee player. Cabrera, of course, began his career with the Indians and would offer them some versatility. The 31-year-old impending free agent has batted .250/.333/.398 with nine homers in 70 games this season.

Jon Morosi of MLB Network reports that the Cubs have inquired with the Rangers on the availability of Yu Darvish.

Jeff Passan of Yahoo Sports previously reported that the Rangers were trying to gauge interest in Darvish, and it appears the Cubs are one of the first teams to have checked in. It could just be due diligence, although the Cubs have been connected to other starters, as well, even after acquiring Jose Quintana, so it appears they're interested in further upgrading their rotation.

Eric Sogard (ankle) is expected to be activated from the disabled list Friday.

Sogard played a second rehab game with Low-A Wisconsin on Thursday and as long as he recovers OK from it he will rejoin the Brewers on Friday in Philadelphia. He's been out since early July with a jammed left ankle. Jonathan Villar didn't start two of the last three games and could see his playing time cut more with Sogard back in the fold.
Jul 21 - 9:37 AM

Blaine Boyer (elbow) will resume throwing off a mound in the next day or two.

Boyer will join the Red Sox on their West Coast road trip. It sounds like he could make it back before the end of the month if all goes well.
Jul 21 - 9:26 AM

Joe Kelly (hamstring) will travel with the Red Sox to Anaheim this weekend and hopes to be cleared to throw a bullpen session.

Kelly is a week removed from being placed on the disabled list with a strained left hamstring. He won't be ready to return when eligible, but making it back before the end of the month seems possible.
