Phillies reassigned OF Brian Bogusevic to minor league camp.

Bogusevic slugged .611 in 36 spring at-bats, but the strong showing wasn't enough for him to land a bench spot. Bogusevic last saw major league competition with the Cubs in 2013.

Astros optioned 1B Jon Singleton to Triple-A Fresno.

Singleton hit just .213/.288/.340 during spring ball. He offers some pop in the bat (13 home runs in 310 at-bats in 2014). Singleton is still just 23 years old and has room to grow. Should he see a call-up later this season, he'll have value in deeper AL-only leagues.

Astros optioned OF L.J. Hoes to Triple-A Fresno.

Hoes hit decently during spring training, but he doesn't amount to much more than a backup outfielder. He is a career .235/.288/.331 hitter.

Matt Barnes (food poisoning) is scheduled to pitch on Thursday.

Nothing to see here. If Barnes makes the Red Sox Opening Day roster, it will be as a reliever, but he's likely to begin the season in Triple-A.

Ken Giles (back) saw a doctor after experiencing back pain during Tuesday's Grapefruit League appearance.

After the doctor's visit, Giles said that his injury wasn't serious. The 24-year-old is uncertain as to when he'll be able to start pitching again, but this doesn't appear to be a major issue.

Phillies reassigned RHP Phillippe Aumont to minor league camp.

As Aumont was out of options, his reassignment means that he cleared waivers. This is at least somewhat surprising, as the 26-year-old was once a relatively highly touted prospect and boasted a 10.6 K/9 in the minors last season. Despite the arm talent, he's yet to sip more than a few cups of coffee at the major league level.
Apr 1 - 8:52 AM

An MRI on Aaron Crow's elbow revealed a tear that will likely result in Tommy John surgery.

Crow pitched eight innings for the Marlins in Spring Training before he was shut down with the arm injury. The pitcher was acquired from the Royals over the off-season. In 2014, he posted a 4.12 ERA and a 1.288 WHIP over 59 relief innings. Assuming Tommy John, he'll miss the entirety of the 2015 season.
Apr 1 - 8:47 AM

Nationals reassigned OF Tony Gwynn Jr. to minor league camp.

Despite outfield injuries to Jayson Werth and Denard Span, Gwynn was unable to secure a bench spot after a nice spring (.341/.420/.500). Recent acquisition Matt den Dekker will serve in that role. Tyler Moore and Michael Taylor are currently slated to start in the OF alongside Bryce Harper. Should the Nationals see a few more injuries, Gwynn is a possible call-up.
