Buster Olney of ESPN reports that the Red Sox will receive Heath Hembree and Edwin Escobar from the Giants in exchange for Jake Peavy.

The 25-year-old Hembree has served as the closer at Triple-A Fresno for the past three seasons, and owns a 3.89 ERA, 1.35 WHIP and 46/13 K/BB ratio over 39 1/3 innings on the year.

Diamondbacks released 1B/OF Nick Evans.

Evans has agreed to a deal with Japan's Rakuten Golden Eagles, so the Diamondbacks have released him from his contract. The 28-year-old has appeared in 16 games with the D'Backs this season, slashing .238/.238/.476 with a homer and four RBI in his 21 at-bats.

Phillies right-handed pitching prospect Aaron Nola struck out four batters over five innings, scattering five hits and a walk while allowing one run for High-A Clearwater on Friday.

Nola did well against a lineup that included prospects Colin Moran and Avery Romero, and is now holding batters to a .229/.260/.427 line. The Phillies are fast-tracking Nola, and he should make his major league debut in mid-to-late 2015.

The Yankees will decide on Sunday whether Mark Teixeira (lat) will require a trip to the disabled list.

Teixeira is scheduled to do stretching and running on the field before Saturday's game, then will do tee and toss on Sunday before a determination is made. He has been sidelined since Sunday with a lower left lat strain.

Jon Heyman of CBS Sports reports that the Giants have agreed to a deal to acquire Jake Peavy from the Red Sox.

The Red Sox are rumored to be receiving a pair of minor league pitchers back in the trade. The veteran right-hander is in the midst of a disappointing season, posting a 1-9 record, 4.72 ERA, 1.43 WHIP and 100/46 K/BB ratio through his first 20 starts. A return to the National League should be a nice boost to his fantasy value.

Diamondbacks right-handed pitching prospect Braden Shipley struck out five batters over seven one-run innings, scattering six hits, two hits, and one hit batsman for High-A Visalia on Friday.

Shipley has averaged 10 K/9 for the season, but opposing batters have hit .264/.333/.404 off him for the season. He sports a 4.39 ERA and a 1.350 WHIP, both of which were influenced by a few clunkers. Shipley needs to improve his command and breaking ball, but he has the potential to be a frontline starter and could see time in Arizona as soon as late 2015.

Cardinals signed C A.J. Pierzynski.

Pierzynski will be active and in uniform for Saturday's game against the Cubs. The 37-year-old catcher was hitting .254/.286/.348 with four homers over 72 games before being cut loose by the Red Sox.
Jul 26 - 11:47 AM

Diamondbacks right-handed pitching prospect Archie Bradley allowed five hits, three walks, two hit batsman, and seven runs over 2 2/3 innings for Double-A Mobile on Friday.

Bradley only allowed five hits, but two were doubles and one was a home run. Bradley was dominating Double-A hitters, but his most recent start can be called a "clunker." The Diamondbacks have begun to sell off pieces, and Bradley could see time in Arizona before the end of the year.
