Jets DE Leonard Williams (strained muscle behind knee) fully expects to be ready for Week 1.

"Yeah, I'll definitely be ready for Week 1," Williams promised. The plan is to rest Williams' strained knee muscle for the next "5-7 days," but he should get in a practice or two before the opener, and play against the Browns. Williams' early-season availability took on increased importance after Sheldon Richardson's four-game suspension. Williams will start versus Cleveland.

Broncos WR Jordan Norwood has seven catches for 67 yards this preseason.

Norwood played extensively with the Peyton Manning group in Denver's third preseason game, replacing Emmanuel Sanders (hamstring) at slot receiver. When the Broncos' receiver crew is fully healthy, Sanders will man the inside in three-wide sets, with Demaryius Thomas and Cody Latimer aligning on the perimeter. Norwood is a crafty slot man, but he's low on talent as a 29-year-old former UDFA out of Penn State. He's just completing for a roster spot in Denver. Norwood missed all of 2014 with a torn ACL.

Panthers acquired WR Kevin Norwood from the Seahawks.

It was initially reported that Norwood had been waived. Instead he's been shipped to the thinnest wideout corps in the league. Norwood has nice measurables, but is a 26-year-old (in September) sophomore who didn't produce much in college. Even in receiver-needy Carolina, his contributions should come mostly on special teams.

The league has upheld Martavis Bryant's four-game suspension for violating the substance-abuse policy.

Dominating the preseason after his hot finish to 2014, Bryant will rejoin the Steelers in Week 5. Bryant's initial role will depend on how Markus Wheaton fares in his absence, but he's worth stashing on your bench as a potential/likely stretch-run WR3.

49ers placed C Daniel Kilgore (leg, ankle) on the reserve/PUP list.

Kilgore remains in a walking boot. He broke his leg last season, and underwent ankle surgery in June. Marcus Martin should man center in Kilgore's absence. The earliest he can return is Week 7.
Aug 31 - 3:36 PM

Bills RCB Stephon Gilmore (shoulder) is expected to be ready for Week 1.

Gilmore tweaked his shoulder in Saturday's preseason game. The No. 10 overall pick of the 2012 draft is expected to play some shadow coverage for coach Rex Ryan this season.
Aug 31 - 3:29 PM

Sammy Watkins (glute) has resumed practicing.

Watkins will be ready to go in 13 days against the Colts. Watkins is an explosive playmaker, but for now is only on the WR2 fringes.
Aug 31 - 3:27 PM

The Bills have confirmed Tyrod Taylor will be their starting quarterback.

"It all comes down to the explosiveness Tyrod brings to us," were the words of coach Rex Ryan. Taylor is certainly explosive, but has lacked passing finesse going back to his days at Virginia Tech. He'll be someone the Bills try to hide, hoping for rushing yards and big plays. Taylor's legs put him on the QB2 radar, and leave him as an intriguing early-season possibility in daily leagues.
