Warwick Saupold suffered a right groin strain during an appearance Tuesday versus the Angels.

Saupold yielded three earned runs on a walk and five hits during his two-inning outing. The right-hander will likely be placed on the disabled list Wednesday.
Jun 1 - 12:58 AM

Cliff Pennington left Tuesday's game against the Tigers after appearing to aggravate his left hamstring.

Pennington just spent 15 days on the disabled list with a left hamstring strain, and it looks like he might be headed back there. He suffered the re-injury while legging an infield single in the bottom of the seventh.

Jon Gray allowed three runs over six innings in a win against the Reds on Tuesday.

On a night when the Rockies offense had its way, Gray was able to keep the Reds largely in check. Two solo home runs, by Joey Votto and Jay Bruce, were among the five hits Gray allowed, and he also walked three on the night. Still, it was a quality start for the right-hander, who now has five quality starts in his last six outings after a brutal beginning to the year. Because of that slow start, Gray still has a 5.76 ERA and 1.32 WHIP, but he's also got a 49/16 K/BB ratio over 45 1/3 innings. The 24-year-old should have another strong showing Sunday at the Padres.
Jun 1 - 12:52 AM

Lorenzo Cain went 2-for-4 with a home run, four RBI and two runs scored as the Royals slugged their way past the Rays 10-5 on Tuesday.

Cain hit a two-run homer off Rays starter Drew Smyly in the first inning and added a two-run single in the fourth. The multi-hit game was his 13th in the month of May, a month he is surely sad to see end. Cain batted .351 with six homers, 25 RBI and 18 runs scored in the month, giving him eight home runs, 33 RBI and 28 runs scored to go with a .295/.348/.456 line overall.
Jun 1 - 12:40 AM

Ketel Marte (thumb) went 0-for-5 in his first rehab game Tuesday with Triple-A Tacoma.

Marte served as the DH in this one, but he should begin playing shortstop by the weekend and he's due back on the Mariners' active roster next Monday. That's the first day he's officially eligible to return from the 15-day disabled list. Marte has been out since May 21 because of a left thumb sprain.
Jun 1 - 12:35 AM

Corey Dickerson went 2-for-5 with a home run and four RBI in a loss to the Royals on Tuesday.

Dickerson launched a three-run blast off Royals starter Dillon Gee in the second inning to give the Rays a short-lived lead. The homer was his ninth of the season, giving him 24 RBI. Hitting homers has been about all the 27-year-old has been good for at the plate this season, as he's slashing just .204/.248/.454 in his first year with the Rays.
Jun 1 - 12:32 AM

Kendrys Morales went 2-for-5 with a home run, three RBI and a run scored in Tuesday's win over the Rays.

Morales connected on a Brad Boxberger pitch in the sixth inning for a two-run shot, his sixth of the season. The multi-hit game was his first since May 14 as it's been a trying year for the 32-year-old, who's hitting just .193/.262/.330 through the season's first two months.
Jun 1 - 12:30 AM

Eric Hosmer finished 3-for-5 with a double, two RBI and two runs scored in a win over the Rays on Tuesday.

Hosmer continues to punish the baseball, as he's now recorded five consecutive multi-hit games. In those games, the first baseman is 13-for-22 with three doubles, two home runs, six runs scored and 12 RBI. That's good. So is his .330/.376/.553 line overall.
