Kolten Wong said Sunday that he would "100 percent" rather be traded than be platooned at second base.

It was one of a host of scathing comments from Wong in the wake of Cardinals manager Mike Matheny saying Saturday that the club would consider a platoon at second base. "I honestly don't give a (censored)," Wong said when asked about the team mulling over a platoon. Wong added that he doesn't want to be "wasting my time" with the Cards if they don't have faith in him. They're words Wong probably shouldn't have aired in public, but you can understand his frustration after the club essentially committed to him as the regular second baseman this winter. That said, Wong could make it all a moot point if he simply played better. He sports an underwhelming career .248/.309/.370 batting line and entered Sunday hitting just .182/.265/.250 this spring.

Pedro Baez (thumb) will face hitters on Monday.

It will be a nice step, but Baez still hasn't pitched in a game this spring due to a nagging right thumb injury. He's probably going to begin the season on the disabled list.

Jaff Decker (oblique) will play in a minor league game Sunday.

Decker hasn't played in a week due to a sore oblique. He's trying to win a bench spot but is running out of time to make a nice impression.

Khris Davis (quad) is playing in a minor league game Sunday.

Davis has dealt with a sore quad for a few days, but the A's have insisted that it's a minor injury. Assuming all goes well Sunday, he should be cleared to return to Cactus League games this week. Davis is coming off a breakout power season for Oakland that saw him pop 42 longballs.

Ben Zobrist (neck) is aiming to return to the lineup on Monday or Tuesday.

Zobrist hasn't played in a week because of a stiff neck. The Cubs are probably just playing things cautiously here, as a veteran like Zobrist doesn't need a ton of spring training at-bats.

Steven Souza (blister) played only defense in a minor league game Sunday.

Souza has dealt with a blister for a few days and isn't ready to swing a bat in a game yet. He'll probably be fine by Opening Day but obviously doesn't have a ton of time.

Rays placed RHP Kevin Gadea on the 60-day disabled list with right elbow tendinitis.

The Rays had been set to offer the Rule 5 pick back to the Mariners, but instead they'll stash him on the DL. The move clears a spot on the 40-man roster for the addition of Derek Norris.
Mar 26 - 1:10 PM

Rays signed C Derek Norris to a one-year contract.

The deal was reported Friday and is now official. Norris will reportedly make under $2 million, with more available in incentives. He's also owed another $700,000 from the Nationals and will be under team control through 2018. Norris is coming off an awful season that saw him bat just .186/.255/.328, and he's also been dinged for his defense. However, the Rays are viewing him as an upgrade over Curt Casali and Luke Maile until Wilson Ramos (knee) is ready.
