Darren Wolfson of 1500ESPN.com reports that the Twins have inquired about watching Rafael Soriano throw.

Wolfson adds that it's "possible they already watched him" throw. It's not clear how series Minnesota's interest in the free agent reliever is at this point. Soriano's market has been shockingly non-existent, as he was connected to the Blue Jays briefly but that was back in January. The reliever is working out at his agent Scott Boras' training facility in Miami.

John Lackey completed seven innings and allowed just one run as a Cardinals split-squad beat the Mets 5-4 on Friday.

Lackey tends to have lousy spring numbers most years, but this gets his ERA down to 3.77 for now. Barring an ugly outing next week, he'll finished under 5.00 for just the third time since 2006.
Mar 27 - 4:51 PM

Matt Harvey surrendered one run over 4 1/3 innings and struck out five Friday versus the Cardinals.

Harvey's velocity was better today after being down a bit last time out, and he had it pretty easy against the Cardinals. He's sporting a 1.45 ERA and a 17/1 K/BB ratio in 18 2/3 innings for the spring.

Jenrry Mejia walked two and gave up a three-run homer in two-thirds of an inning of relief Friday against the Cardinals.

That Bobby Parnell's Tommy John rehab hasn't gone quite as hoped has sent Mejia's stock rising a bit this spring. Hopefully, today's poor showing was just a blip on the radar. He had allowed one run and walked none in his previous six appearances this month.

Rafael Ortega hit a pair of homers and drove in four runs Friday against the Mets.

The 23-year-old Ortega was a member of the Cardinals' 40-man roster last year until being designated for assignment and clearing waivers in September. He's really more of a speedster than a power guy; he finished with seven homers and 19 steals in a 2014 season spent mostly in Double-A. He has three 30-steal seasons to his credit in the minors, but he's never topped nine homers.
Mar 27 - 4:43 PM

Peter Bourjos went 2-for-4 with a double and two runs scored Friday against the Mets.

He also attempted two steals in the game, getting throw out the first time. Bpurjos was 2-for-29 this spring before going 3-for-6 the last two days. The Cardinals can't send him down -- he's out of options -- so barring a trade, he'll be on the roster. Still, assuming that the team also carries Randall Grichuk, Bourjos won't be penciled into the starting lineup often at all.
Mar 27 - 4:40 PM

Julio Teheran held the Red Sox to two runs over 5 2/3 innings Friday in Atlanta's 4-2 win.

The game was called in the eighth after a brief rain delay. Teheran allowed five hits and four walks today, but he was able to pitch his way out of trouble against a lineup that included three regulars and several quality reserves. His spring ERA is down to 5.79.
Mar 27 - 4:30 PM

Clay Buchholz yielded six runs and 12 hits over five innings Friday in a loss to the Braves.

That's three more hits than he allowed in his previous three starts combined. Buchholz seemed to be focusing more on his fastball than usual today, probably in an effort to build up stamina. He still struck out six batters, but he also gave up plenty of hard contact. Overall, it's been a rather encouraging spring for him, particularly with the 18/3 K/BB ratio and just one homer allowed in 15 innings.
