Jake Peavy will make his Giants debut on Sunday against the Dodgers.

One of the reasons that the Giants pushed to get the deal done so quickly was to get Peavy active and in uniform in time for Sunday's ballgame. The deal is still pending approval from the commissioner's office.

A.J. Pierzynski is in the Cardinals starting lineup for Saturday's game against the Cubs.

He's hitting sixth in the lineup for his Cardinals debut. While he's a shell of his former self, as long as he's receiving regular playing time behind the dish in St. Louis, he's fantasy-relevant again in two-catcher formats.

The Blue Jays will ease off of him for the next couple of days before he resumes full baseball activities. He had been expected to be activated from the disabled list next week, though that timetable is likely to be pushed back with this setback.

Buster Olney of ESPN reports that the Red Sox will receive Heath Hembree and Edwin Escobar from the Giants in exchange for Jake Peavy.

Escobar, was ranked as Baseball America's 56th best prospect heading into the 2014 season, but has struggled with a 5.11 ERA over 20 starts in the PCL.

Diamondbacks released 1B/OF Nick Evans.

Evans has agreed to a deal with Japan's Rakuten Golden Eagles, so the Diamondbacks have released him from his contract. The 28-year-old has appeared in 16 games with the D'Backs this season, slashing .238/.238/.476 with a homer and four RBI in his 21 at-bats.

Phillies right-handed pitching prospect Aaron Nola struck out four batters over five innings, scattering five hits and a walk while allowing one run for High-A Clearwater on Friday.

Nola did well against a lineup that included prospects Colin Moran and Avery Romero, and is now holding batters to a .229/.260/.427 line. The Phillies are fast-tracking Nola, and he should make his major league debut in mid-to-late 2015.
