Red Sox transferred LHP Robbie Ross to the 60-day disabled list.

Nothing has changed in the recovery for the left-hander, this was done merely as a procedural move to free up a roster spot for the promotion of Rafael Devers on Monday.

Red Sox optioned RHP Kyle Martin to Triple-A Pawtucket.

Martin was only with the club for a couple of days as an extra bullpen arm. The 26-year-old owns a 3.86 ERA, 1.71 WHIP and 1/2 K/BB ratio in 2 1/3 innings at the big league level this season. He should get another chance with the Red Sox when rosters expand in September.

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said Sunday that Brandon McCarthy (blister) won't make his scheduled start on Tuesday and will be heading to the disabled list.

Kenta Maeda will start in his place on Tuesday against the Twins. McCarthy dealt with blister issues in each of his previous two starts and the club wants to make sure he gets rid of the problem before he takes the hill again.

Willson Contreras blasted a go-ahead two-run homer in the sixth inning on Sunday, powering the Cubs to a 5-3 victory over the Cardinals.

Contreras tagged Cardinals' starter Michael Wacha for the game-changing blast. He finished the night 1-for-4. The hard-hitting backstop is slashing .269/.334/.491 with 15 long balls and 52 RBI on the season.

Wade Davis locked down his 20th save of the season on Sunday, working a scoreless ninth inning to protect a two-run advantage against the Cardinals.

Davis allowed a leadoff single to Paul DeJong, but no damage came from it. The 31-year-old now boasts a 2.12 ERA, 1.12 WHIP and 48/16 K/BB ratio across 34 innings on the season.

Jose Quintana earned his sixth victory of the season on Sunday, limiting the Cardinals to three runs on five hits across six innings of work.

The left-hander punched out seven on the night while issuing a pair of free passes. All of the damage against him came via the long ball, with Randal Grichuk clubbing a two-run homer and Paul DeJong adding on a solo shot. He'll look to stay unbeaten as a member of the Cubs when he does battle against the Brewers in Milwaukee on Friday.
Jul 23 - 11:08 PM

Randal Grichuk went deep for the third consecutive game on Sunday, but it wasn't enough to lead the Cardinals to victory over the Cubs.

Grichuk's two-run blast off of Jose Quintana got the Cardinals on the board in the second inning. He finished the night 2-for-4 and is now slashing .226/.281/.449 with 12 long balls and 35 RBI.

Michael Wacha struggled in Sunday's loss to the Cubs, surrendering five runs on six hits over his six innings of work.

The right-hander punched out six and didn't walk a batter. He had trouble keeping the ball in the yard on Sunday, with Kyle Schwarber blasting a solo homer in the fourth inning and Willson Contreras adding a two-run shot in the sixth. Wacha will carry a 3.93 ERA and 1.31 WHIP into Friday's matchup against the Diamondbacks.
