Huston Street gave up a solo homer to Brandon Belt in the ninth inning Friday, but he still nailed down his sixth save in six chances.

It was the first run allowed by Street in seven innings this season. He gave up a whopping 12 homers in 56 2/3 innings last year.

Matt Cain was a hard-luck loser after limiting the Padres to an unearned run over seven innings on Friday.

The lone run came on the first on what was originally ruled a wild pitch, but was later changed to a passed ball. Cain struck out eight for the second start in a row. He's now 0-3 despite a 2.88 ERA. The Giants are scoring runs, just not for him.

Yasmani Grandal delivered a pinch-hit homer Friday against the Giants.

The Padres have fallen in love with Rene Rivera's defense, and he started his seventh game tonight, matching Grandal's total. Nick Hundley has also remained in the mix, starting three games. Grandal should see his role increase as the year goes along.

Jason Vargas spun seven scoreless frames in 5-0 win over the Twins on Friday night.

Vargas scattered seven hits (all singles) in the victory while walking just one batter and fanning four. The 31-year-old left-hander has been excellent so far this season, going at least seven innings in all four of his starts while allowing two runs or fewer in all of them. We don't expect the 1.24 ERA to last, but the Royals have to be thrilled with the early returns on their offseason investment.
Apr 19 - 12:59 AM

Ricky Nolasco was knocked around for five runs over 5 2/3 innings in a loss to the Royals on Friday night.

Nolasco gave up 11 hits in the loss, including a two-run home run to Mike Moustakas. Signed to a four-year, $49 million contract over the winter, the veteran right-hander has allowed five runs in three out of his first four starts this season. That's not what the Twins had in mind.

Mike Moustakas smacked a two-run homer in Friday's win over the Twins.

After going homerless over his first 11 games this season, Moustakas has gone deep twice in the past three days. It's encouraging, but those fantasy owners who invested based on his red-hot spring training are still likely to be disappointed.
Apr 19 - 12:58 AM

Brandon Belt went 2-for-4 and hit his sixth homer Friday against the Padres.

Belt's homer off Huston Street in the ninth scored the Giants' lone run of the game. He's now tied with Giancarlo Stanton, Mark Trumbo, Jose Bautista and Pedro Alvarez for the major league lead in homers.
Apr 19 - 12:57 AM

Omar Infante went 2-for-4 with two RBI on Friday against the Twins.

Infante knocked in Alcides Escobar with an infield single in the third inning and later drove him in again in the fifth inning with a clean single to right field. The veteran infielder is 6-for-28 (.214) with one home run and five RBI since he took a pitch to the face on April 7.
