Brad Miller went 2-for-4 with a home run to help the Rays top the Yankees 6-3 on Saturday.

Miller hit his 16th home run of the season in the first inning off Yankees starter Nathan Eovaldi. It was his fifth in his last nine games, a stretch in which he has five multi-hit games. It's shaping up to be a career year in all aspects for the 26-year-old, who's hitting .253/.301/.479 with 38 RBI, 43 runs scored and four steals on the year.

Chase Headley went 2-for-2 with a home run and two runs scored in a loss to the Rays on Saturday.

Headley hit a solo dinger in the eighth inning, giving him 10 on the season. Half of those have come this month, with Headley hitting .283 with 13 RBI and 15 runs scored in July. The third baseman is hitting .259/.330/.395 in 94 games overall.

Casey Fien (elbow) will throw a bullpen session on Sunday.

He's been on a throwing program but this will be his first pen session since going on the disabled list with elbow tendinitis earlier this month. Fien carries a 5.55 ERA over 35 appearances for the Twins and Dodgers this year.

Tim Beckham went 2-for-3 with a two-run home run and two runs scored Saturday against the Yankees.

Beckham hit a two-run blast to the deepest part of the park in the seventh inning, his fifth homer of the year. The 26-year-old actually has a modest six-game hitting streak going, batting .545 (12-for-22) with two homers, six RBI and seven runs scored in that span. It's a glimpse of what the former top overall pick can do, but he'll have to do a lot more of it to stay in the lineup on a regular basis. Beckham is hitting .238/.295/.459 overall.

Giants manager Bruce Bochy said Denard Span (quad) is doubtful for Sunday's game against the Nationals.

He's day-to-day with a bruised quad. Span made a pinch-hitting appearance on Saturday but had to be lifted for a pinch-runner. Look for Gregor Blanco to draw another start in center field on Sunday.

Nathan Eovaldi allowed three runs over six innings in a loss to the Rays on Saturday.

Eovaldi yielded just three hits on the afternoon while walking two, but a pair of homers -- a solo shot by Brad Miller and a two-run job by Curt Casali -- did him in. That's been a theme this year for Eovaldi, who has allowed 21 homers in 22 appearances, including 19 starts. The loss dropped the 26-year-old to 9-7 with a 4.78 ERA and 1.34 WHIP on the year. He'll look to get back in the win column in a crosstown matchup with the Mets on Thursday.
Jul 30 - 10:06 PM

Giants manager Bruce Bochy said Brandon Crawford (hand) is questionable for Sunday's game against the Nationals.

Crawford didn't start Saturday's game because of a bruised hand but he did enter the game as a defensive replacement in the ninth inning. Eduardo Nunez started in his place and would probably do so again if Crawford sits out the series finale.

Drew Smyly held the Yankees to two runs over six innings, striking out six, in a win Saturday.

Smyly gave up four hits, including a Brett Gardner two-run homer, and walked one in the outing. The win was somehow just his third of the season, leaving his record at 3-11 through 20 starts. The southpaw, assuming he's not among those who will be changing teams in the coming days, will try to make it a winning streak Thursday against the Royals.
