Brewers signed RHP Chris Perez to a minor league deal.

That was fast. The Brewers released Perez just two days ago. It's been a strange week for Perez, who was pulled from Sunday's game with an ankle injury, subsequently released, then re-signed two days later. OK, Brewers, you do you. Perez posted a 4.27 ERA with a 1.36 WHIP in 46 1/3 relief innings with the Dodgers in 2014. He'll serve as bullpen depth in the minors, unless the Brewers opt to cut him again tomorrow.

Mariners re-signed OF Franklin Gutierrez to a minor league contract.

Gutierrez was released and quickly re-signed, which allows the Mariners to avoid paying a $100,000 retention bonus. The 32-year-old outfielder didn't play at all last season due to health issues and was limited this spring with a groin issue. However, he was likely ticketed for Triple-A all along.

Jacoby Ellsbury (oblique) indicated that he will be "fine" for Opening Day.

Ellsbury's been battling an oblique injury since the middle of March, but he's making strides in his recovery and feels he'll be ready to start on Opening Day. On Friday, he took indoor BP. The next step for Ellsbury will be a major league spring game. He looks like he's on track for the team's opener, barring a setback in the next few days.

Chad Gaudin (arm) will begin the season in extended spring training.

Gaudin has been shut down with a nerve injury in his neck that's caused his fingers to tingle. In addition to the neck injury, he also has been battling arm soreness. He'll continue to rest in Arizona until doctors clear him for baseball activities.

Dodgers released RHP Dustin McGowan.

Because of a slew of arm injuries, McGowan has logged only 128 2/3 innings over the last six seasons. In 2014, he finally avoided the DL, posting a 4.17 ERA with a 61/33 K/BB ratio over eight starts and 45 relief appearances for the Blue Jays. But he then allowed six runs in eight innings this spring in Dodgers camp after signing a one-year, $507,500 contract in late February.
Mar 31 - 2:28 PM

Coco Crisp (elbow) said that he "doesn't know" if he'll be ready for Opening Day.

Crisp played in a minor league camp game on Tuesday, going 0-3 with a walk. The A's have been going slow with Crisp this spring. That he is still uncertain of his status for the opener could be an indication that a DL trip is an increasing possibility. Crisp has been moved to left field from center, in the hopes of preserving the veteran's health.

Brewers manager Ron Roenick said that Ryan Braun's thumb is no longer a concern.

Braun underwent thumb surgery in October and has been on the mend ever since. He appears to be fully recovered. Braun will be ready for Opening Day. As long as he's healthy, he remains one of the best hitters in the game. The thumb issue is one to watch during the season, but for now, he should be good to go.

Mariners re-signed LHP Joe Saunders to a minor league contract.

Saunders was due to make a $100,000 retention bonus on his previous minor league deal, so he was released before agreeing to this new contract. He put up a 6.70 ERA over 43 innings in the majors last season and has struggled this spring. The veteran southpaw won't make the Opening Day roster, but he'll give the Mariners some rotation depth in Triple-A.
