Billy Butler is not in the Athletics' lineup Sunday.

It's simply a day of rest. Mark Canha is in the designated hitter spot Sunday in Butler's place.

Wesley Wright (shoulder) will appear in an extended spring training game on May 19.

He should be ready for a rehab assignment shortly after that. Out since mid-April with inflammation in his left shoulder, Wright could rejoin the Orioles' bullpen before the end of the month.

Justin Grimm (forearm) is ready to begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Iowa.

It's not clear how many rehab appearances he'll require before being activated. Grimm has been on the shelf all season with right forearm inflammation.

Athletics recalled RHP Chad Smith from Triple-A Nashville.

Smith earned the promotion after posting a 2.31 ERA over eight relief appearances at Nashville. He'll be used in the middle innings.

Athletics optioned RHP Ryan Cook to Triple-A Nashville.

Cook was hammered for five runs over 4 1/3 innings during his week up with the big club. Chad Smith has taken his spot in the bullpen.

Ryan Flaherty (groin) will begin a rehab assignment with Double-A Bowie on Monday.

He's on track to be activated from the disabled list when first eligible on Friday. Flaherty is hitting .300/.400/.600 with a couple homers over nine games this season.

J.J. Hardy (shoulder) will begin a rehab assignment with Double-A Bowie on Monday.

He'll play three games for the Baysox and then will likely be activated from the disabled list on Friday if all goes well. Hardy has been out all season with a left shoulder strain but has made progress recently after being given a cortisone injection.

Kolten Wong is absent from the Cardinals' lineup Sunday.

Wong suffered a minor wrist injury on Saturday, but he stayed the game so this just looks like a day off. Pete Kozma is at second base Sunday in his place.
