Joe Kelly (shoulder) threw a 35-pitch bullpen session on Friday.
It's the first time he's thrown off a mound since going on the disabled list with a right shoulder impingement. Kelly will throw another bullpen session Tuesday and could be cleared to begin a rehab assignment after that.
Tommy Milone could have his next turn in the rotation skipped.
Milone's spot comes up Sunday, but the Twins could start Ricky Nolasco on regular rest or possibly go with Alex Meyer. The left-hander holds a 5.40 ERA in his five starts and his time in the Twins' rotation might come to a close soon.
Jarrod Saltalamacchia is not in the Tigers' lineup on Friday.
It's a simple day off. Bobby Wilson is catching.
Athletics transferred OF Sam Fuld from the 15-day disabled list to the 60-day disabled list.
The move clears a spot on the 40-man roster for Sean Manaea. Fuld remains out indefinitely with a strained shoulder.
Athletics optioned 1B/OF/C Matt McBride to Triple-A Nashville.
McBride was only up with the big club for a couple days. He didn't appear in a game.
Athletics recalled RHP Andrew Triggs from Triple-A Nashville.
Triggs threw a perfect inning earlier this week before being sent down. He'll work in middle relief.
Athletics purchased the contract of LHP Sean Manaea from Triple-A Nashville.
Manaea will make his major league debut on Friday against the Astros. Acquired from the Royals last season in the Ben Zobrist deal, Manaea has put up a 1.50 ERA and 21/4 K/BB over 18 innings this season at Nashville. He should get a chance to stick around for good if he pitches well, particularly with Chris Bassitt (elbow) going on the disabled list.
Athletics placed RHP Chris Bassitt on the 15-day disabled list with a right elbow strain.
It helps explain why Bassitt's velocity was down Thursday against the Tigers when he got pummeled for seven runs over 3 2/3 innings. It's unclear at this point how long Bassitt will be sidelined. Jesse Hahn will replace him in the rotation on Saturday.
