Luis Severino will make his major league debut Wednesday against the Red Sox.

After dominating at every level, the Yankees are finally ready to see what their No. 1 prospect is made of. The 21-year-old was brilliant in his last start for Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, tallying 10 strikeouts over six one-hit innings. Bryan Mitchell will lose his spot in the starting rotation when Severino arrives.

Jason Kipnis will DH Saturday against the Athletics because of a sore right shoulder.

Kipnis was also the DH for Friday's game. The injury doesn't sound serious but it's something to keep an eye on. Utility man Mike Aviles is starting at second base for the Tribe on Saturday.

Charlie Furbush (biceps) is scheduled to throw bullpen sessions on Sunday and Tuesday.

If all goes well, Furbush will begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Tacoma on Thursday and could be back with the Mariners by next weekend. Furbush has been one of the more reliable arms in Seattle's bullpen, contributing a dominant 2.08 ERA across 33 appearances this year. Left-handers are hitting .105 against him in 38 at-bats.

J.D. Martinez left Saturday's game with a left knee contusion.

Martinez fouled a ball off his knee in his first at-bat of the game. His X-rays came back negative and the Tigers are calling him day-to-day. Tyler Collins replaced Martinez in right field and could start there Sunday if Martinez is too sore to play.

Giants released RHP Erik Cordier.

Cordier had an August 1 opt-out clause in his contract. He's pitched well for Triple-A Sacramento this year (1.04 ERA in 31 games) but the Giants haven't been able to find room for him in their bullpen.

J.D. Martinez left Saturday's game against the Orioles after fouling a ball off his left knee.

He finished his at-bat and stayed in the game for one more inning before being replaced by Tyler Collins. Martinez has had a breakout year for Detroit, slugging 28 homers while driving in 68 runs. The injury couldn't have come at a worse time as the Tigers are painfully thin at outfield after trading Yoenis Cespedes to the Mets on Friday.

Matt Moore will be sent down to Triple-A Durham.

The move will be made official on Monday. Moore hasn't looked right since coming back from Tommy John surgery. In six starts, he's 1-3 with a horrifying 8.78 ERA. Opponents have hit .365 against him with four homers in 26 2/3 innings. For now, the Rays will go with a four-man rotation of Chris Archer, Nathan Karns, Jake Odorizzi and Erasmo Ramirez.

Logan Morrison is likely to see less playing time when he returns from his thumb injury.

According to beat reporter Bob Dutton, the Mariners want to take "a long look" at Jesus Montero. Montero has been arguably the best hitter in minor league baseball this season and has played well since getting promoted (5-for-14 with three RBI). Morrison's .221 average this year is his lowest in six major league seasons. He could be headed for the bench if things don't improve quickly.
