James Loney (finger) is expected to return to the Rays' active roster on Friday.

Loney has been on a minor league rehab assignment since Tuesday. He broke a bone in his left middle finger back in late May and will wind up missing around five weeks. The first baseman returns to a .275/.322/.376 batting line, two homers, and 11 RBI in 30 games.

Giants activated RHP Matt Cain from the 15-day disabled list.

Cain will make his 2015 regular-season debut Thursday in the Giants' series finale against the Marlins after missing three months with a flexor tendon strain in his right arm. The veteran right-hander pitched pretty well on his minor league rehab tour and is worth owning in most mixed fantasy leagues. Tim Lincecum (forearm) was placed on the disabled list Thursday in a corresponding roster move.

Giants placed RHP Tim Lincecum on the 15-day disabled list with a right forearm contusion.

Lincecum suffered a bad bruise Saturday in his start against the Rockies. He may be moved to the bullpen once he's back to 100 percent health. Matt Cain (elbow) is taking over the vacant rotation spot.

Matt Wisler allowed one hit over 5 1/3 scoreless innings in defeating the Nationals on Wednesday.

Wisler walked five, which is the biggest reason he didn't work very deep into this one. Still, he struck out six and that lone hit against him was a single. With two fine performances in three starts, he's worth sticking with in mixed leagues for now.

Doug Fister was tagged for four runs in six innings by the Braves in a loss Wednesday.

It was just one bad inning, as Fister allowed two homers and all four runs in the fourth. His velocity was about the same as last time out, which was better than in his return from the DL but not where he was last year. He's probably just a fifth starter in mixed leagues as is.

A.J. Pierzynski hit a two-run homer against the Nationals on Wednesday.

Pierzynski hit three homers in his first five games of the season, but he's had just two since. His offensive numbers are still living off that huge April he had, but the Braves committed to him over Christian Bethancourt and don't seem to regret it.
Jul 2 - 1:20 AM

Kenley Jansen allowed a late run but still managed to pick up his 13th save of the season in Wednesday's 4-3 win over the Diamondbacks.

Jansen trotted into the game with his team up 4-2. The two-run cushion turned out to be necessary. After striking out the first batter of the frame, Jansen coughed up a solo homer to David Peralta before recording the last two outs minus any issues. Jansen's allowed runs in each of his last two appearances, but owners should look to a 13-for-14 save chance record, 1.53 ERA and stellar 30/1 K/BB ratio over 17 2/3 innings rather than these little blips of trouble on the radar. As long as he's healthy, he remains one of the top closers in the game.
Jul 2 - 1:16 AM

Aaron Hill went 1-for-3 with a solo home run and two RBI in Wednesday's loss to the Dodgers.

Hill connected for his fourth homer of the season when he launched a Brett Anderson offering into the seats in the sixth inning. He also chipped in with a sacrifice fly in the eighth to push his overall RBI total for the season to an even 20. Hill is a possible candidate for trade as we enter July, though his .224/.284/.333 slashline makes one wonder what, if anything, the Diamondbacks could get in return for the 33-year-old infielder.
