Rams waived QB Garrett Gilbert, OT Mitchell Van Dyk, DE Kourtnei Brown and DT Deantre Harlan.
A sixth-rounder, Gilbert was 16-of-33 for 158 yards (4.78 YPA) this preseason. It's obviously a poor sign for his NFL future that he couldn't crack the 53-man roster of a team that just lost its starting quarterback.
Travis Kelce played 15-of-39 preseason snaps with the first-team offense.
Most of the snaps came in two-tight end packages, with Anthony Fasano on the field. Still, it's encouraging usage for Kelce, who has been a standout throughout the preseason. He's also expected to see time in the slot this season. Kelce should be targeted in the late rounds of fantasy drafts as a high-upside TE2.
Chargers waived QB Brad Sorensen, CB Crezdon Butler, DE Joe Kruger and DE Doug Worthington.
The No. 221 pick of last year's draft, Sorensen wasn't active for a single game as a rookie. At best, he'll bounce around the league as a camp arm the next 2-3 seasons.
Ravens waived/released TE Nathan Overbay, LB D.J. Roberts, C Reggie Stephens, DT Levi Brown and DT Derrick Hopkins.
Overbay has been bouncing around practice squads since 2010, but has never appeared in a regular-season game. It's amazing he's lasted on the NFL fringe as long as he has.
Cardinals DB Tyrann Mathieu (knee) has been cleared to tackle during practice next week.
Coach Bruce Arians said Mathieu would have to play in Thursday's preseason finale to be active for Week 1, but wants to see how he looks in practice before ruling him out. Mathieu has been participating in 11-on-11 drills since last week. He remains questionable for Arizona's regular-season opener on September 8.
Broncos waived/released DT Sione Fua, LB L.J. Fort and CB Jerome Murphy.
Sua was signed last November, and active for two games down the stretch. He did not appear during the Broncos' playoff run. The 2011 third-round pick of the Panthers was limited to five games between Denver and Carolina last season. He'll search for reserve work.
Steelers placed LB Jordan Zumwalt on injured reserve with a groin injury, ending his season.
The No. 192 pick of May's draft had been injured off and on. He'll be back to compete for a spot on special teams in 2015.
Jaguars waived QB Ricky Stanzi, FB Eric Kettani, OG Drew Nowak, DE Gerald Rivers, WR Chad Bumphis, S Craig Loston, OT Cody Booth, DE DeAndre Coleman, DT Ricky Havili-Heimuli, K/P Kasey Redfern, OG Tyler Shatley and TE D.J. Tialavea.
LB Marcus Whitfield
Waiving Stanzi has become an annual rite of passage. 27 next week, the 2011 fifth-rounder has never appeared in a regular-season game. He's running out of chances as a camp body.
