FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal reports that Clayton Kershaw could scratched from Wednesday's scheduled start versus the Athletics due to a hip/glute issue.

It doesn't appear to be a big concern, as Kershaw would simply be pushed back to Friday. The Dodgers will make a decision later Wednesday. If Kershaw is scratched, Mike Bolsinger will move up to take the ball Wednesday.

ESPN's Jerry Crasnick reports that the Astros are "monitoring the relief market" and have discussed Craig Kimbrel, Joaquin Benoit and Francisco Rodriguez.

It doesn't sound like they're close to anything, but it appears the Astros are interested in adding to what has been a very good bullpen. Of the three aforementioned relievers, only Benoit could be a free agent after the season (he has an $8 million club option for 2016).

Gordon Wittenmyer of the Chicago Sun-Times reports that the Dodgers have acquired Mat Latos and Mike Morse from the Marlins in exchange for prospects.

Wittenmyer adds that the Dodgers will also receive "at least one competitive balance pick." The Dodgers almost surely aren't done shopping for starters, but Latos should fit in nicely in their rotation, as he boasts a 2.96 ERA and 43/9 K/BB ratio over 45 2/3 innings since returning from the disabled list. Morse is merely a salary dump by the Marlins, so he would serve only in a pinch-hitting role in Los Angeles.

MLB.com's Joe Frisaro reports that Dan Haren is "shaping up as an August (trade) candidate."

Haren would likely clear waivers with his $10 million salary, so waiting to trade him until next month shouldn't be an issue. The Blue Jays are one club known to have some interest. Frisaro adds that "indications remain" that Mat Latos will be dealt by Friday.

Starlin Castro is not in the Cubs' lineup Wednesday.

It's a day off for the struggling Castro. Addison Russell has slid over to handle shortstop, while Jonathan Herrera is getting a start at second base.
Jul 29 - 11:15 AM

Jorge Soler is not in the Cubs' lineup Wednesday.

It's just a day off. Chris Coghlan has shifted over to right field in Soler's place.
Jul 29 - 11:14 AM

Kyle Schwarber is making his first major league start in left field Wednesday.

Schwarber's bat has been too good to keep out of the lineup, so the Cubs are doing what they can to keep him in there on days he doesn't catch. The youngster is hitting .352/.426/.593 with three homers over 18 games with the Cubs.
Jul 29 - 11:13 AM

Cubs purchased the contract of RHP Ben Rowen from Triple-A Iowa.

Rowen boasts a 1.93 ERA in 34 relief appearances in the minors this season. The side-armer should serve as a matchup guy versus righties.
