Athletics purchased the contract of RHP Edwin Jackson from Triple-A Sacramento.

Jackson is being called up to make the start Monday against the Tigers. The 34-year-old signed a minor league deal with Oakland earlier this month after opting out of his deal with the Nationals. He posted a 4.02 ERA over three starts in Triple-A. The A's will be the 13th team he's played for in his career.

Athletics activated LHP Ryan Buchter from the 10-day disabled list.

Buchter ended up missing two months with a left shoulder strain. He returns to a 1.69 ERA over 10 2/3 innings.

Gary Sanchez (groin) will be placed on the disabled list.

The Yankees have yet to make an official announcement, but Jon Morosi of MLB Network hears that Kyle Higashioka will replace Sanchez on the active roster. Sanchez left Sunday's game with a groin injury, but we should know more about the severity following MRI results.

Athletics designated RHP Liam Hendriks for assignment.

No word yet on the corresponding roster move. Hendriks has missed time this season with a groin injury while struggling with a 7.36 ERA over 13 appearances. He's still owed about half of his $1.9 million salary for this season, but he could draw some interest via waivers or trade. He still has one year of team control remaining, as well.

Mike Trout said Sunday that he will test his right finger by throwing in the next couple of days.

Trout has served as the DH for five straight games as he nurses a sprained right index finger. "They said to give it a week to see how it feels," said Trout, who is 3-for-15 (.200) with five walks and seven strikeouts during this stretch. "We’re just trying to calm it down." Trout feels strange as the designated hitter, but it sounds like things should be back to normal soon enough.

Maikel Franco left Sunday's game against the Nationals due to lower back tightness.

He's fortunate things it wasn't worse, as Franco took a nasty fall slipping on the first base bag while legging out an infield single. He said after the game that he might be able to play Monday, so consider him day-to-day.

Brewers released LHP Boone Logan.

Logan was designated for assignment last week and will now try to find a new home. The veteran southpaw signed a one-year, $1.875 million deal with the Brewers in January, but he struggled with a 5.91 ERA over 16 appearances.
Jun 25 - 10:21 AM

Brewers manager Craig Counsell said after Sunday's game that he doesn't think Travis Shaw (wrist) will require a stint on the disabled list.

Shaw exited Sunday's game after aggravating his right wrist on a swing. There should be more clarity on his status in the next day or two, but Shaw thinks the scheduled off-day on Monday will help. Stay tuned.
