Yovani Gallardo was hit hard for seven runs in 4 1/3 innings Monday against the Padres.

Gallardo allowed nine hits, with three of them leaving the yard. His spring ERA now sits at 9.24, but the Mariners acquired him over the winter with the idea of plugging him in their rotation. That’s not going to change now, but fortunately most fantasy owners have more appealing alternatives to choose from.

Delino DeShields went 2-for-2 with two walks, a stolen base, and a run scored in Monday’s 6-5 win over the Rockies.

DeShields is now up 12 steals on the spring to go along with .302 batting average and a .448 on-base percentage. The 24-year-old is coming off a disappointing 2016 where he spent time in the minors and batted just .209/.275/.313 over 74 games in the majors, but there’s opportunity in left field. He could be a sneaky speed option in deeper fantasy leagues.

Greg Holland allowed two runs on three hits in one inning of work Monday against the Rangers.

While Holland struck out two in the frame, he allowed a single, a double, and a triple and also let in a run on a wild pitch which occurred on a third strike. He needed 27 pitches to get through the frame. The plan calls for Holland to pitch again on Tuesday, which would mark the first time this spring that he has appeared in back-to-back games. He’s looking like the favorite to begin the year as the closer, so obviously it’s a big test for him.

Kyle Freeland yielded four runs over 4 2/3 innings in Monday’s start against the Rangers.

Freeland had allowed one earned run or fewer in each of his last four appearances, so this was a notable step back for him. The 23-year-old gave up seven hits (including a homer to Mike Napoli) while walking three. He still appears to be in decent shape to begin the year with a rotation spot, but this wasn’t the best timing for a shaky outing. There should be more clarity on the rotation in the next couple of days.

Mike Napoli went 2-for-2 with a solo homer, a double, a walk, and two runs scored Monday against the Rockies.

Napoli has slugged three homers during Cactus League action with a .325/.378/.625 batting line. The 35-year-old faded down the stretch last year, but still ended up establishing new career-highs with 34 home runs and 101 RBI. There’s batting average risk here, but he’ll play half of his games in a great hitting environment during his third stint with Texas.

Daniel Norris said he was dealing with a "dead arm" during Monday's outing versus the Braves in which he allowed nine runs on 13 hits and a walk over three innings.

"Tonight, even in warm-ups, could feel everything was out of whack," said Norris, who added that his arm "feels like it weighs a million pounds." It's obviously not the kind of thing you want to hear a week before the beginning of the season, but at least he doesn't seem to be dealing with any sort of injury. Norris had been pitching very well this spring until Monday and remains an intriguing option in fantasy leagues. You just might be better off benching him for his first start or two to see how he looks.

Anthony Swarzak's fastball has been clocked on average at nearly 96 mph this spring.

Swarzak was around 93 mph last season with the Yankees as a full-time reliever, but this is easily the hardest the 31-year-old has ever thrown. The righty says the adjustment is a mental rather than physical one, as he's "getting to that age where nothing is guaranteed for me so I'm kind of letting it all out there and I think I found another gear somewhere." Swarzak has a 3.86 ERA and 12 strikeouts in 9 1/3 innings this spring and has a good shot to make the White Sox' bullpen as a non-roster invitee.

Dodgers signed RHP Justin Masterson to a minor league contract.

Masterson first started auditioning for clubs well over a month ago and has finally caught on somewhere. The big right-hander failed to make it up to the majors last season, posting a 4.97 ERA and 32/26 K/BB ratio in 54 1/3 innings with the Triple-A affiliate of the Pirates. Masterson is 32 now and hasn't had any success at the big league level since 2013. He's strictly a no-risk flier.
