Jason Vargas threw seven scoreless innings in Sunday's win over the White Sox.

After a rough outing against the Astros, Vargas has went at least seven innings in his last two games and has back-to-back quality starts. He gave up just four hits with three walks and finished with six strikeouts. Vargas now has a 3.55 ERA through his first nine starts this season.

Howie Kendrick went 2-for-4 with a double and two RBI in Sunday's win over the White Sox.

Kendrick hasn't had many RBI opportunities batting in the sixth spot for the Angels, but he surprisingly managed six home runs this season. The 29-year-old second baseman is batting .370 (10-for-27) with a home run and two doubles over his last seven games.

Jake Peavy was charged with four earned runs on four hits over six innings in a loss Sunday against the Angels.

Peavy struggled with his control (five walks), but allowed just four hits and had seven strikeouts. After giving up consecutive two run innings, he retired the last seven batters he faced. It ends a streak of five-straight games in which Peavy had surrendered two or fewer runs. Peavy shouldn't have any trouble getting back on track in his next start Saturday vs. the Marlins.

Scott Van Slyke left Sunday's game with an apparent leg injury.

Van Slyke fouled a pitch off his leg and had to be removed from the game. The Dodgers should provide an update on his status soon.

Cubs designated RHP Michael Bowden for assignment.

The move clears a spot for Matt Garza's return from the disabled list. Bowden has a 3.78 ERA in 14 appearances with the Cubs this season.

Angel Pagan left Sunday's game with flu-like symptons.

Pagan was taken out of the game in the fifth inning and replaced by Andres Torres. He won't require an extended absence and could return to the Giants' lineup Monday.
May 19 - 5:55 PM

Mets prospect Rafael Montero has been promoted to Triple-A Las Vegas.

It's just a spot start for Montero, who has a 3.47 ERA with Double-A Binghamton. The Mets will him send back down immediately, but it's likely only a matter of time before he's officially added to the Triple-A rotation. Montero, 22, is viewed as more major league ready than higher ceiling prospects Domingo Tapia and Luis Mateo.

Bobby Parnell earned his sixth save of 2013 in the Mets' 4-3 win over the Cubs on Sunday.

Parnell struck out two of the three batters he faced in the ninth inning. The 28-year-old right-hander has an exceptional 0.93 ERA, 0.67 WHIP and 18/3 K/BB ratio in 19 1/3 innings this season to go along with his six saves. The Mets aren't going to win many games, but Parnell carries plenty of mixed league fantasy value.
