Brock Holt hit an RBI double in Sunday's loss to the Athletics.

The Sox weren't in danger of being no-hit again, but they were trending toward a second straight shutout before Holt's run-scoring double in the seventh inning tied the game at 1-1. It was Holt's only hit in four at-bats. He's been getting regular playing time with Xander Bogaerts sidelined, but with Bogaerts set to return this week Holt will likely move back into a reserve role. The 29-year-old is slashing .244/.326/.390 in 41 at-bats this year.

Marcus Semien went 2-for-4 with two runs scored in a win over the Red Sox on Sunday.

Semien now somewhat quietly is up to fourth in the American League in runs scored with 18 following Sunday's two-run affair. He's also been delivering at the dish, with multi-hit games in four of his last seven outings. The shortstop, who was off to a good start last year as well before missing three months with a broken right wrist, is hitting .266/.327/.394 through the first 22 games this year.

Stephen Piscotty went 2-for-4 with a run scored in Sunday's win over the Red Sox.

Piscotty was part of the deciding rally in the eighth inning when he singled with one out against David Price. Two batters later, Khris Davis homered to give the A's a late lead. Piscotty has been on fire since April 10, picking up hits in 10 of the 11 games and batting .372 (16-for-43) in that span. The hot streak has his season line up to a healthy .291/.341/.405 overall.

David Price pitched well for seven innings but stumbled in the eighth, allowing nine hits and four runs over 7 2/3 innings in a loss to the A's on Sunday.

Price largely cruised through seven but ran into trouble in the eighth when the A's picked up back-to-back one-out singles. He retired the red-hot Jed Lowrie for the second out but couldn't get past Khris Davis, whose three-run homer closed the book on Price and saddled him with his second loss. Even with the poor ending, Price now has a 2.93 ERA through five starts and seems to be past the elbow issue that plagued him last year. Price will next take on his former Rays club Saturday in Boston.
Apr 22 - 7:54 PM

Daniel Mengden allowed one run on six hits over 6 1/3 innings but settle for a no-decision Sunday against the Red Sox.

Mengden couldn't replicate the no-hit effort of teammate Sean Manaea, but he was pretty darn good, striking out five without issuing a walk. The good outing came on the heels of his best start of the year, in which he went eight innings while allowing a lone run in a win over the White Sox. A late-arriving offense deprived him of his third straight win, but Mengden is now 2-2 with a respectable 3.86 ERA and 1.12 WHIP through five starts. The defending World Champion Astros await on Saturday.

Andrelton Simmons was forced to leave Sunday's game against the Giants with a right forearm contusion.

Simmons was hit by a pitch by Johnny Cueto in the second inning. He went for X-rays that ruled out any structural damage though, so consider the slick-fielding shortstop day-to-day.
Apr 22 - 7:46 PM

Jake Lamb (shoulder) will be shut down for the next few days due to tendinitis in his right elbow.

Lamb had finally been making progress in his recovery from an AC sprain in his left shoulder and was nearing a return, but this will set him back a bit. At this point, a return before the end of April seems optimistic.
Apr 22 - 7:43 PM

Javier Baez went 2-for-6 with a solo home run and two-run double to help the Cubs outlast the Rockies 9-7 on Sunday.

Baez hit a no-doubter to the deepest part of the park in the second inning, and he later tacked on a two-RBI double in the seventh to extend the Cubs' lead. The homer was his seventh of the year, and the second baseman leads the National League with 23 RBI. He's hitting .292/.363/.736 through 19 games, and after a breakout last season, this year could be the one in which Baez becomes a star.
