Jefry Rodriguez struggled in his first major league start Tuesday, yielding five runs over five frames in the Nationals’ 9-7 victory.

Rodriguez struck out six, but he served up a pair of home runs, walked three and hit a batter, needing 96 pitches to complete his six innings. The Nats managed to battle back, handing Rodriguez with a no-decision. The young right-hander is surely headed back to the minors.

David Hess started strong but hit a wall Tuesday, allowing five runs over just 4 2/3 innings in the Orioles' loss to the Nationals.

Hess yielded just a solo home run and one walk through the first four frames, but things quickly fell apart in the fifth. He permitted four hits, two walks and four runs to eight hitters before finally being pulled. Hess has now posted two straight clunkers and can’t be trusted in fantasy leagues, especially since he’s not missing bats. He’s lined up to face the Braves on Sunday.

Charlie Culberson homered, doubled and scored three times in Tuesday's rout of the Blue Jays.

The homer wasn't a walkoff, so Culberson is trying to get it stricken from the record. No word yet on the results of his appeal.

Sean Doolittle served up a solo home run but hung on to collect the save Tuesday against the Orioles.

Joey Rickard left the yard with one out in the ninth inning, but Doolittle bounced back to retire the next two batters to preserve the two-run victory. It's the first time in a month that the closer has given up a run. New acquisition Kelvin Herrera pitched a perfect eighth inning ahead of Doolittle.

Darren O'Day was unavailable for Tuesday night's game against the Nationals due to a sore hamstring.

If it lingers for longer than a couple of days, the O's may have to consider placing him back on the disabled list. O'Day just missed a month of action with a hyperextended right elbow. The veteran setup man has a 3.12 ERA, 0.87 WHIP, and 23/2 K/BB ratio in 17 1/3 innings this season.

Trea Turner had a monster night at the plate Tuesday, going 4-for-4 with a solo home run in the Nationals' win over the Orioles.

Turner's solo shot was the only hit the Nats had through the first four innings. The shortstop led off the fifth with a single and Washington's offense got to work after that, ultimately totaling 14 hits and nine runs. Turner's home run was his eighth on the season and first in 12 tilts.

Mike Clevinger fanned 10 while limiting the White Sox to one run in 7 2/3 innings in a victory Tuesday.

Half of Clevinger's six wins have come against the White Sox; he's allowed three earned runs and fanned 28 over 22 1/3 innings in his three starts against the team. His control still rates as uneven, but he's been so much better at avoiding walks than he was last year, making it quite possible that he'll maintain the strong results.

Carlos Rodon lost to the Indians after allowing four runs in 6 1/3 innings on Tuesday.

Rodon has had the misfortune of facing Boston and now Cleveland twice in his first three starts back from the disabled list, but he's held his own, amassing a 4.41 ERA to date. Things will get a little easier with the A's and Rangers up next.
