Rangers purchased the contract of RHP Ross Wolf from Triple-A Round Rock.

He'll make the start Wednesday in place of Nick Tepesch, who was scratched due to a blister on his finger. Wolf has a 1.85 ERA and 25/9 K/BB ratio in 34 innings this season in Triple-A. The 30-year-old is likely to head right back down to the minors, so he's not worth chasing in most fantasy leagues.

Rangers optioned RHP Cory Burns to Triple-A Round Rock.

Wednesday's starter, Ross Wolf, will replace him on the active roster. Burns allowed two runs in 3 2/3 innings during his brief stint with the big club and should get another shot in the Rangers' bullpen later this year.

Rob Bradford of WEEI.com was told by a major league source that the Red Sox and Jacoby Ellsbury have not discussed a contract extension.

Ellsbury is represented by Scott Boras, so it's not a big surprise that there hasn't been much momentum for a deal with free agency looming this offseason. However, Ellsbury might not get the big payday he was hoping for if he doesn't turn things around. The 29-year-old is hitting just .242/.307/.335 through 45 games this season and owns a measly .666 OPS and 79 OPS+ dating back to the start of last year.

Tim Byrdak (shoulder) threw his third bullpen session Wednesday.

Byrdak, who had shoulder surgery last September, resumed throwing earlier this month and has worked his way up to 25 pitches. It's not clear when he'll be ready for a rehab assignment, but he's hoping to rejoin the Mets around midseason.

Joe Mauer is not in Wednesday's lineup against the Braves.

He'll get a rest with the day game after the night game. The Twins are playing under National League rules in Turner Field, so the DH spot isn't available. Ryan Doumit will start behind the plate Wednesday.

Aramis Ramirez is not in Wednesday's lineup against the Dodgers.

He'll take a seat for the day game, which is understandable given his knee issue. Jeff Bianchi will make the start at the hot corner.
May 22 - 10:55 AM

Todd Frazier is not in Wednesday's lineup against the Mets.

Frazier has three two-hit games in his last four, but he'll get a rest for the day game. Jack Hannahan will make the start at third base.

Trevor Plouffe said Wednesday that he passed his concussion test, but was placed on the 7-day disabled list because of his initial wooziness.

After what happened with Justin Morneau and Denard Span in previous seasons, the Twins didn't want to take any chances. Plouffe hopes to be back when he's first eligible next week.
