FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal reports that the Cardinals, Dodgers and Pirates are all "in the mix" for Jon Lester.

Lester has been scratched from Wednesday's scheduled start and is expected to be dealt soon, so it sounds like it will come down to which of the three clubs Rosenthal mentions makes the best offer. It was reported previously that Josh Bell was at the center of the Red Sox' talks with the Pirates. It's not clear at this point what the Cardinals and Dodgers are offering. Lester seems likely to change addresses on Wednesday.

Scott Feldman kept the A's to one run on five hits over seven innings but walked away with a no-decision on Tuesday.

Feldman was in line for his fifth win, but a complete meltdown from closer Chad Qualls rendered Feldman's work meaningless. It's been that kind of year for the right-hander, who loses when he gets shelled and rarely wins when he pitches well. Feldman has a 4.39 ERA through 19 starts but remains 4-8 on the season. He'll look for a better fate Sunday against the Blue Jays.

Jeff Samardzija allowed four runs on six hits over 6 2/3 innings of a no-decision against the Astros on Tuesday.

Samardzija was in line for his second loss as a member of the A's before a rally in the ninth inning let him off the hook. The right-hander gave up three extra-base hits among his six hits allowed, walking two while striking out seven. It wasn't his best performance, but Samardzija still has a 3.19 ERA over five starts since being dealt to the A's. He'll look for his third American League win against the Rays on Monday.

Bruce Levine of 670thescore.com has been told by two sources that the Pirates are "in pursuit" of Jon Lester.

Jeff Passan and Tim Brown of Yahoo! Sports reported earlier Tuesday that the Pirates were a "a fast-emerging dark horse" to acquire Lester. It's possible they're the favorites to get him at this point after Lester was scratched from Wednesday's scheduled start. Jose Tabata was scratched from the lineup at Triple-A Indianapolis Tuesday, so he could potentially be part of a deal for Lester (though obviously not the headliner). WEEI.com's Rob Bradford and Alex Speier have reported that the Red Sox are still in discussions with multiple teams regarding Lester.

Kyle Gibson struck out seven, allowing only two hits, over seven shutout innings in the Twins' 2-1 defeat of the Royals on Tuesday.

Gibson surrendered just two singles and walked two, needing just 95 pitches to get through his seven innings of work. The start was especially good to see because Gibson had missed his previous turn in the rotation due to back stiffness. The right-hander now owns a 3.94 ERA through 20 starts this year. Showing no lingering effects from the back injury, Gibson should be ready to roll for his next start, scheduled for Sunday at the White Sox.

Glen Perkins allowed a ninth-inning run but closed the door on the Royals to earn the save Tuesday.

Things got a little dicey for Perkins after an Omar Infante leadoff double and subsequent RBI single from Eric Hosmer made the score 2-1, but Perkins retired Salvador Perez, Alex Gordon and Billy Butler in order to squash the rally. It was the third straight outing in which Perkins has allowed two hits, a disturbing trend, but he still hasn't blown a save since June 20. The 31-year-old has a 2.78 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and 56/8 K/BB ratio to go along with his 26 saves.
Jul 29 - 11:35 PM

Brian Dozier went 2-for-3 with an RBI single in Tuesday's win over the Royals.

Dozier also doubled in the game, breaking an 0-for-15 slump. The most disappointing thing about his July slide is his lack of walks -- after walking 52 times through the season's first three months, Dozier has a 1/21 BB/K ratio in July. The drought has him at .233/.328/.422, and owners who sold high on him are patting themselves on the back right now.
Jul 29 - 11:32 PM

James Shields walked four while allowing two runs -- one earned -- over six innings in a loss to the Twins on Tuesday.

Shields also yielded six hits, so he was somewhat fortunate to escape without more damage. Even with some of the blemishes, the start was Shields' fourth quality start in his last five outings. He's 1-2 in that stretch, though, and 9-6 overall. The right-hander will carry a 3.50 ERA into Sunday's start at the Athletics.
