Reds released RHP Marcus Walden.

Walden, 26, was blasted in his lone start with the Reds' Double-A affiliate this season and posted a 5.35 ERA and 61/43 K/BB ratio over 99 1/3 innings in the minors last season between the Blue Jays and Athletics. He'll attempt to latch on elsewhere.

Blue Jays purchased the contract of INF Jonathan Diaz from Triple-A Buffalo.

He'll replace the injured Jose Reyes (rib) on the active roster. Diaz, 30, hit .158 (6-for-38) over 23 games with the Blue Jays last season and will provide some infield depth.

Mets recalled RHP Rafael Montero from Triple-A Las Vegas.

Montero is being called up make a spot start Tuesday against the Marlins, which will enable the other Mets starters to all get an extra day of rest. Dillon Gee is coming off back-to-back solid starts, so it's unlikely that Montero will displace him in the starting rotation even with a strong performance.

Jacoby Ellsbury (hip) went 1-for-3 with an RBI, a stolen base, and a walk in his return to the lineup Monday against the Rays.

Ellsbury left Saturday's game with hip tightness and sat out Sunday, but it's not a major concern. The 31-year-old is batting .284/.384/.351 across 18 games this season.

Dodgers manager Don Mattingly said after Monday's game that it "sounds like" Carl Crawford is dealing with an oblique injury.

Crawford was forced to leave Monday's game due to what is being termed as tightness in his right side. The Dodgers should know more about his status on Tuesday, but a trip to the disabled list could be a possibility. Andre Ethier is currently filling in for Yasiel Puig, so Alex Guerrero and Scott Van Slyke could see an uptick in playing time.
Apr 28 - 8:30 AM

Jed Lowrie will fly to Houston on Tuesday to undergo an MRI on his right thumb.

Lowrie hurt the thumb when he slid into home plate in the eighth inning on Monday. It was swollen and sore after the game, but there should more clarity about his status at some point Tuesday. The 31-year-old is off to a strong start at the plate, with a .300/.432/.567 batting line with four home runs and 10 RBI over 18 games.
Apr 28 - 8:12 AM

James Shields got a no-decision, allowing three runs (one earned) in six innings as the Padres lost 9-4 to the Astros on Monday.

Shields was terrific, finishing the night with 12 strikeouts. The Padres scored their first run against him in the fourth inning when Jed Lowrie smacked a solo home run. They scored two more in the fifth, helped in part by a fielding error by shortstop Alexi Amarista. Shields limited the Astros to just six hits and a walk. He's sitting with a productive 2.90 ERA, 1.13 WHIP, and a 41/9 K/BB ratio in 31 innings. Shields will go for his third win of the season in a home start against the Rockies next.
Apr 28 - 1:55 AM

Jed Lowrie finished 2-for-3 with a walk, a double, and a solo home run on Monday to help lead the Astros past the Padres.

Lowrie broke a scoreless tie in the fourth inning with a solo home run down the right field line off of James Shields. The shortstop hit only six home runs last season, but has four already along with 10 RBI and a .300/.432/.567 triple-slash line.
