DeVante Parker (ankle) was held out of Thursday's practice.

Sep 21 - 3:54 PM

Chargers coach Anthony Lynn said ILB Denzel Perryman (I.R.) is "on schedule" in his recovery from a torn ankle ligament.

Lynn said he may even be ahead of schedule." Perryman won't be eligible to return or even practice for several more weeks while on injured reserve, though it appears he'll be back at some point this year. His original timetable called for an 8-10 week recovery.

DeMarco Murray (hamstring) remained sidelined at Thursday's practice.

Murray was "inside on the treadmill." Two missed practices for a workhorse 29-year-old back do not guarantee he will sit — Murray is the kind of player who can suit up without practicing — but things certainly aren't looking good. Even if Murray does play, Derrick Henry seems likely to take the lead against the Seahawks.

Ezekiel Elliott admits he showed a lack of effort on two carries against the Broncos.

Elliott agreed with LaDainian Tomlinson's criticism. "I would say I was just very frustrated, but that's no excuse for the lack of effort I showed on tape," Elliott said. "I just can't do that. Being one of the leaders on the team and being a guy that people count on, I can't put that type of stuff on film." It was certainly a regrettable effort from Elliott, but that hasn't been a theme through the first two years of his NFL career. He should come roaring back against the Cardinals in Week 3.

Ravens TE Maxx Williams is sidelined with an ankle injury.

Williams missed Wednesday and Thursday's practices. Ben Watson seems to be emerging as the Ravens' No. 1 tight end, though Williams has five grabs through two games. Still only 23, Williams offers theoretical upside, but he doesn't seem poised to reach it any time soon.

Speaking Thursday, Kenny Britt said he had a "man-to-man" conversation with coach Hue Jackson about "stepping up."

Britt said Jackson has asked him to bring more energy "on- and off-the-field." Jackson acknowledged challenging the 29-year-old wideout, who has displayed embarrassing effort through his first two games as a Brown. Loafing, Britt has totaled two catches for 15 yards. He's seemed content to let Rashard Higgins, who was on the practice squad as recently as last week, take over as the Browns' No. 1 receiver. Britt has already reached now-or-never time with his new club.

Coach Ron Rivera said Carolina's backfield work will be determined by "flow of the game" and who is playing well.

Fantasy owners who used an early-round pick on Christian McCaffrey can't be too thrilled by this development. Essentially the Panthers are going with a hot-hand approach, which means McCaffrey's role is going to be different each week. For all his promise, McCaffrey has been out-touched by veteran Jonathan Stewart 35-30 in the early going. McCaffrey's day will eventually come, but it could be a while before he overtakes Stewart.
Sep 21 - 3:06 PM

Panthers coach Ron Rivera admitted there's "some concern" for Ryan Kalil's (neck) availability for Week 3 against the Saints.

He's sat out both practices this week with a neck injury and doesn't seem to be making much progress. Tyler Larsen would likely fill in at center if Kalil can't get the green light.
