Shawn Tolleson nailed down his ninth save of the season with a scoreless ninth inning in Monday's win over the Blue Jays.

Tolleson allowed a leadoff single to Justin Smoak but then induced three straight fielder's choices to escape. While the closer's ERA still sits at an ugly 5.40, that's the result of one poor appearance. He's converted nine of 10 save opportunities and his job is very safe at the moment.

R.A. Dickey looked good in a no-decision Monday, tossing 6 1/3 frames of one-run ball against the Rangers.

Dickey walked three and struck out just three, but he managed to hold Rangers in check for the most part, surrendering only a solo homer to Brett Nicholas in the third inning. It was the knuckleballer's best start of the season, as he entered the outing with a 6.75 ERA. He'll try to keep it going against the Dodgers this weekend.

Nomar Mazara singled and ripped a go-ahead, solo homer in the eighth inning of Monday's win over the Blue Jays.

Mazara drilled a Gavin Floyd offering over the center field wall to lead off the frame and then helped hold the lead when he threw Michael Saunders out at the plate in the bottom of the inning. The 21-year-old is now sporting a .333/.386/.486 batting line over his first 72 major league at-bats. It's really difficult at this point to see the Rangers sending Mazara down when Shin-Soo Choo (calf) returns.

John Ryan Murphy was ejected from Monday's game against the Astros.

Murphy was tossed after arguing balls and strikes while catching. He went 0-for-1 with a walk before being replaced by Kurt Suzuki behind the plate.

Tyler Skaggs will be shut down from throwing for another week after being diagnosed with biceps tendinitis.

Skaggs recently came down with some shoulder tightness while rehabbing from Tommy John surgery. The southpaw will be reevaluated in a week, after which he could be cleared to resume a throwing program. He's still a ways off from joining the Angels.

Matt Szczur left Monday's game against the Pirates with a tight hamstring.

Szczur went 1-for-2 with a walk, a stolen base, and a run scored before exiting the game. It's probably safe to call him day-to-day.

Trevor Plouffe (intercostal) is set to be activated from the disabled list on Tuesday.

Plouffe, who went down with a right intercostal strain in mid-April, went 1-for-8 over two minor league rehab games with High-A Fort Myers. He was batting .302 (13-for-43) with two homers and an .868 OPS over 12 games prior to the injury.

Peter Abraham of the Boston Globe hears from a source that Pablo Sandoval faces "significant" surgery on his left shoulder.

The Red Sox have yet to announce the details of the surgery, but Abraham hears that the "odds are against" Sandoval playing this season. The Red Sox haven't missed him in the early part of the season, as Travis Shaw has taken advantage of regular playing time at third base by batting .322/.390/.533 over 25 games. For what it's worth, FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal hears that Sandoval's contract with the Red Sox is not insured. The first two years of his contract have been a disaster.
