J.C. Ramirez left Saturday's start against the Orioles with right forearm irritation.

Aug 19 - 10:50 PM

Jose Altuve went 2-for-3 with a stolen base and a run scored in Saturday's win over the Athletics.

It's hardly worth writing up a pair of hits and a steal anymore; we should write about the times when Altuve doesn't do anything at the plate. Case in point: Saturday's game was the fifth time in his last seven games that Altuve had multiple hits. He leads the American League in both batting average (.364) and stolen bases (28) and he's third in runs scored (84). The 27-year-old is hitting .364/.423/.572 with 19 homers, 67 RBI, 84 runs scored and 28 steals overall.

Miguel Sano left Saturday's game against the Diamondbacks with left shin soreness.

The injury is to his lower shin. Sano didn't look right running to first on a fourth-inning double play ball but stayed in until Mitch Garver pinch-hit for him in the seventh. He went 0-for-2 with a walk before exiting. Consider the All-Star third baseman day-to-day.

Rafael Devers mashed his eighth homer Saturday in the Red Sox’s loss to the Yankees.

He trimmed New York’s lead to 4-3 by swatting a solo shot to deep center in the seventh. Devers also singled and scored on Jackie Bradley’s RBI single in the fifth inning. The rookie has been on fire, hitting a robust .407 throughout his six-game hitting streak. He’s now homered in three straight games against the Yankees, becoming the first Red Sox hitter to do that since Will Middlebrooks in 2013.

Mitch Haniger went 2-for-4 and cranked a grand slam to lead his club to a 7-6 win over the Rays on Saturday.

His prodigious shot off starter Jake Odorizzi turned a one-run deficit into a three-run lead in the third inning. This was his first game since being hit in the face by a Jacob deGrom pitch on July 29th. He has missed about 60 games this year with various injuries. The young outfielder has a .259 batting average with eight home runs and 28 RBI in 59 games.

Chris Sale wasn’t at his best on Saturday, yielding seven hits and four runs over seven innings in a loss to the Yankees.

He racked up nine strikeouts while issuing just one walk. Sale usually tears the Yankees up (though he actually hasn’t won against them this year), but he was surprisingly human in this one. Most of the damage he allowed came on a three-run homer by Tyler Austin in the second inning. He also served up a solo shot to his former White Sox teammate Todd Frazier in the sixth. Saturday snapped the left-hander’s six-start unbeaten streak. He’ll take a 14-5 record into his next outing Thursday at Cleveland.
Aug 19 - 10:32 PM

Making his return from the disabled list, CC Sabathia scattered four hits and two runs over six strong innings Saturday in a win over the Red Sox.

He fanned four and walked one over the course of 80 pitches. The only runs he allowed came in the fifth inning when the Red Sox broke through for two hits and a walk. The big left-hander has been money versus Boston, yielding just two runs in 20 innings against them this year. Saturday’s win was Sabathia’s first since July 21. He’ll make his next start at home Friday against Seattle.
Aug 19 - 10:31 PM

Didi Gregorius tallied three hits Saturday in the Yankees’ win over the Red Sox.

Didi doubled and singled twice while scoring his lone run on a three-run shot by Tyler Austin in the second inning. The Netherlands native has been a thorn in the Red Sox’s side all season, hitting .333 in 48 at-bats against Boston. His .312 average is fourth-highest in the American League behind Jose Altuve, Jean Segura and Eric Hosmer.
