Francisco Liriano walked five batters but yielded just one run over 5 2/3 innings in Tuesday's 12-1 rout over the Diamondbacks.

Liriano was wild, which he is prone to being, but he also surrendered just two hits on the night to keep the D'Backs at bay. A few blowout outings have Liriano's ERA on the season at 4.30 and WHIP at 1.47, as he's struck out a batter per inning but also walked 30 across 52 1/3 frames. The southpaw will go up against the Rangers in Texas over the weekend.

Martin Perez threw six scoreless innings in a win over the Angels on Tuesday.

Perez yielded five hits, all singles, and walked two in the outing. He also struck out six. The southpaw has been both lucky and good through 10 starts, posting a 3.13 ERA with a less impressive 1.33 WHIP -- inflated by 30 walks in 60 1/3 innings -- overall. Perez will try to piggyback off Tuesday's success when he takes on the Indians on Monday.

Shelby Miller's season to forget got worse Tuesday, as he was popped for six runs over five frames in a loss to the Pirates.

Miller was down 3-0 before he could catch his breath, as he permitted a walk to John Jaso, a single to Andrew McCutchen and a three-run homer to Gregory Polanco before recording his first out. It didn't get much better after that, as he wound up allowing eight hits while walking four and striking out just three. Miller is now 1-6 with a 7.09 ERA, 1.86 WHIP and 30/29 K/BB ratio over 45 2/3 innings and has registered just one quality start in 10 tries. He'll get the Padres this weekend, so perhaps it will be the start of his turnaround.
May 24 - 11:39 PM

Gregory Polanco had a big night Tuesday, homering and driving in five runs in a blowout win over the Diamondbacks.

Polanco was all too happy to keep adding to Shelby Miller's misery, smacking a three-run shot off the right-hander in the first inning. The dynamic outfielder then added a two-RBI double in the sixth and a single in the seventh to cap off his night. Polanco has been arguably the Pirates' best player so far this season and one of the better players in the National League, sporting a .307/.395/.546 batting line with six homers and 28 RBI.

Josh Tomlin held the White Sox to two runs over eight innings in a 6-2 win Tuesday, earning his seventh straight victory.

Tomlin allowed five hits and a walk while striking out six on the evening. He's now tied for second in the American League in wins, and his 0.98 WHIP is second to only Chris Sale -- the pitcher he defeated on Tuesday -- among qualified AL pitchers. Through eight starts, the 31-year-old is a perfect 7-0 with a 3.35 ERA. Tomlin will try to stay undefeated Monday against the Rangers.
May 24 - 11:30 PM

David Price struck out six and allowed three runs across seven frames in Tuesday's 8-3 win over the Rockies.

It wasn't a dominant outing, as Price's six punchouts is a pretty low total for him this season. However, he surrendered only five hits and one walk on the night, notching his third straight quality start and seventh victory. Price will bring an improving 5.34 ERA into Toronto this weekend.
May 24 - 11:26 PM

Jose Abreu went 3-for-4 with two doubles and a run scored in Tuesday's loss to the Indians.

Somewhat amazingly, the three-hit game was Abreu's first in 2016. It's indicative of the kind of year the 29-year-old has had through the first few months, as his good evening raised his line to a still-pedestrian .247/.317/.407. Perhaps a good night at the dish will get him rolling.
May 24 - 11:24 PM

Mike Napoli went 2-for-4 with a two-run triple, a stolen base and a run scored against the White Sox on Tuesday.

Napoli, not the fleetest of foot, ripped one into the gap in the third inning, and he still required Austin Jackson to flat out miss the ball, Melky Cabrera to kick it around and Tyler Saladino to drop the relay just to make it safely into third base. He was obviously feeling pretty good about himself, because Napoli then proceeded to steal his first base of the season in the ninth inning. He's better known for his run production, which he's done well this season, mashing eight homers with 30 RBI and 26 runs scored in 40 games.
