Luke Weaver walked six and was charged with four runs over 4 2/3 frames in Tuesday’s extra-innings loss to the Mets.

Weaver walked three in the first four innings but allowed just one hit and one run. His control continued to unravel with two more walks in the fifth that preceded a mammoth home run by Yoenis Cespedes. He then issued another free pass to the next hitter before finally being pulled. Weaver was excellent in his first three starts but has really stumbled the last two times out. He’ll try to get back on track Sunday in Pittsburgh.

Jeurys Familia struck out two in a perfect 10th inning to record a save Tuesday versus the Cardinals.

Jay Bruce put the Mets ahead with a solo homer in the top of the 10th inning, and Familia protected that lead with ease in the bottom of the frame. The closer had blown two of his previous three save opportunities. He's tied for the major league lead with his nine saves.

Jay Bruce - OF - Mets

Jay Bruce had three hits -- including a go-ahead solo home run in the top of the 10th inning -- in Tuesday's win over the Cardinals.

Bruce had already driven in a run earlier in the game with what was ruled a triple on a ball that was misplayed by Marcell Ozuna. After Matt Bowman induced a double play to wipe out a leadoff single in the 10th, Bruce then deposited one over the center field wall. It's just his second longball of the season and first since April 5.

Tommy Pham clubbed a two-run home run and reached base in all five plate appearances Tuesday versus the Mets.

Not bad in his first game back after missing a little time with groin tightness. Pham singled twice and drew a pair of walks in addition to his blast off of Zack Wheeler in the first inning. His breakout last season is certainly looking legit to this point, as he sports a .348/.477/.522 line through his first 20 games this year.

Making a triumphant return to Kansas City, Lorenzo Cain went 2-for-3 with a homer and two walks in the Brewers' 5-2 victory over the Royals on Tuesday.

Eric Hosmer was the face of the franchise, but Cain was the best player the Royals lost over the winter. He's hitting .316 with three homers, 15 walks and 16 runs scored in 22 games for the Brewers.

Zach Davies pitched six innings of two-run ball in defeating the Royals on Tuesday.

Davies had an 8.24 ERA in his first four starts last year before going on a nice run for two months. He had a 6.75 ERA in his first three starts this year before consecutive strong outings against the Reds and Royals. Of course, those are awfully weak opponents, but it still seems like a good sign.
Apr 24 - 11:37 PM

Jonathan Villar is batting .300 after going 3-for-4 with a run scored on Tuesday.

Villar isn't an everyday guy yet, but he is the Brewers' preferred option at second base with both Eric Sogard and Hernan Perez off to poor starts. That makes him worth trying in mixed leagues, even if he hasn't really gotten it going yet. There are only a handful of players with more stolen base upside than Villar.
Apr 24 - 11:35 PM

Salvador Perez homered in his return from the disabled list Tuesday against the Brewers.

Perez took Zach Davies deep in his second at-bat of the season and is now tied for fifth on the Royals in homers this year.
