Jose Abreu (finger) is back in the White Sox starting lineup Wednesday versus the Rangers.

Abreu missed several games with lingering irritation in his right index finger. It's something that might continue to bother him off and on for the rest of the summer, but the 28-year-old slugger should still remain a fantasy monster. Abreu is batting third and serving as Chicago's designated hitter in his return to action Wednesday night at Globe Life Park.

Blue Jays pitching prospect Matt Boyd turned in a dominant performance Wednesday, surrendering three hits over 8 1/3 shutout frames in a win for Double-A New Hampshire.

The 24-year-old collected six strikeouts while allowing just one free pass. It's safe to say Boyd has been the Eastern League's best starting pitcher this season. He leads the league in innings pitched (66 2/3), ERA (1.08), WHIP (0.80) and strikeouts (66). It's surprising the left-hander hasn't already been promoted to Triple-A Buffalo.
Jun 3 - 4:49 PM

Stephen Strasburg (trapezius) was able to play catch on flat ground Wednesday without issue.

Strasburg has been diagnosed with a trapezius strain on the left (non-throwing) side of his body. It's kind of a tricky injury, but it should heal with time and it's obviously a good sign that he already feels well enough to throw. Strasburg should return from the disabled list sometime later this month.

Twins activated OF Oswaldo Arcia from the 15-day disabled list; optioned him to Triple-A Rochester.

Arcia had zero hits in 14 plate appearances on his minor league rehab assignment, so the Twins will ask him to work on his stroke a bit more on the farm. He should be up soon enough. Minnesota doesn't have enough productive bats to warrant keeping Arcia at Triple-A for long.

Trevor Rosenthal earned his 17th save of the season Wednesday in the Cardinals' 7-4 defeat of Milwaukee.

Mitch Harris opened the top of the ninth inning with St. Louis leading by four runs, but he gave up two singles so manager Mike Matheny turned it over to his flame-throwing stopper. Rosenthal did surrender an RBI single to Adam Lind, but he then induced a game-ending double play from Jonathan Lucroy. Rosenthal, 25, boasts a 1.08 ERA, 0.69 WHIP, and 26 strikeouts through 26 innings this season.
Jun 3 - 4:39 PM

Pirates outfield prospect Willy Garcia left the yard twice Wednesday in a win for Double-A Altoona.

The 22-year-old has raised his batting average 27 points during his eight-game hitting streak (.276 to .303). It's encouraging to see Garcia find his power stroke. He launched 18 homers last season but had just one in his previous 41 games before Wednesday's explosion.
Jun 3 - 4:35 PM

John Lackey held the Brewers to three runs over seven innings Wednesday in a Cardinals victory.

Lackey was staked to a five-run lead after the first inning and went into cruise control, scattering 10 hits and one walk over his seven frames. He struck out five. Lackey will carry a 4-3 record, 2.93 ERA, and 1.19 WHIP into his next start on the road against the Rockies. He has a strong 52/18 K/BB ratio in 70 2/3 innings.
Jun 3 - 4:35 PM

Jimmy Nelson was lit up for seven runs -- six earned -- over five innings Wednesday in a loss to the Cardinals.

Nelson surrendered five runs to the host Cardinals in the bottom of the first inning and the Milwaukee offense couldn't recover from that deficit. The 25-year-old right-hander is now 2-6 with a 4.41 ERA in 67 1/3 innings (11 starts) this season. He's been shaky now in three straight outings.
