Ravens placed RB Lorenzo Taliaferro (foot) on reserve/PUP.
Taliaferro didn't practice at all in training camp. The Ravens appear likely to keep four backs on their 53-man roster: Justin Forsett, Terrance West, Buck Allen, and Kenneth Dixon (MCL). Taliaferro could return in Week 7.
Ravens placed DE Bronson Kaufusi on injured reserve with a broken ankle, ending his season.
OT Stephane Nembot has also been sent to I.R. The No. 70 overall pick of the draft, Kafusi had been ticketed for a rotational role along the Ravens' defensive line. The lost season is extra bad news for Kafusi, as he's already 25 years old. He'll be on the spot to make an impact in 2017 camp.
NFL.com's Ian Rapoport confirms Bears OLB Pernell McPhee (knee) is in danger of beginning the season on the reserve/PUP list.
McPhee supposedly underwent a "scope" early in the offseason, but the procedure was almost certainly more serious. McPhee would have been back on the practice months ago had he really undergone arthroscopic surgery. The Bears' pass rush is looking dangerously thin to begin the year.
Chargers WR Javontee Herndon is recovering from a knee scope, and expected to miss the entire season.
The return man was battling to be the No. 5 receiver. He'll likely be back to compete for one of San Diego's final roster spots in 2017.
49ers DE Quinton Dial (sprained MCL) will be ready for Week 1.
It's a bit surprising since Dial's injury occurred only four days ago, but the word comes straight from coach Chip Kelly. Dial could have a starting role at right end along San Francisco's outrageously-thin defensive line.
Speaking Tuesday, Redskins coach Jay Gruden said Josh Doctson (Achilles') still doesn't have "full-speed burst," but will resume practicing "very soon."
It's basically what we've been hearing from Gruden all summer about his first-round pick. Doctson seems to have no shot at suiting up for Week 1, and can best be clarified as "week to week." He's been battling the still-mysterious issue since June 1. The situation could change in a hurry, but Doctson begins the year without real value in re-draft leagues.
John Brown (concussion/headaches) "couldn't say" Monday whether he'll be ready for Week 1.
The good news is Brown says this is the first concussion of his life. The bad news is he's endured several setbacks, leaving practice early twice with headaches and missing several more entirely. "I’m just taking it one day at a time," Brown said. "My focus is just being able to practice, just being able to get through a full practice." The Cardinals host the Patriots on September 11.
Bills acquired LB Lerentee McCray from the Packers for an undisclosed 2018 draft pick.
A 2013 undrafted free agent, McCray played 24 games for the Broncos the last two seasons. He will help on special teams and serve as depth for the Bills' banged-up linebacking corps.
