Marwin Gonzalez went 3-for-5 with an RBI and a pair of runs scored as the Astros held off the Tigers on Sunday.

Jose Altuve wasn't in the lineup Sunday as he was getting a day of rest. Gonzalez took second base in his stead and performed admirably, contributing to a 10-run outburst on the afternoon. He's hitting .263/.271/.421 on the year with two home runs, 12 RBI, and 13 runs scored.

Andrelton Simmons went 1-for-2 with an RBI single in Sunday's win over the Brewers.

At the time Simmons hit his run-scoring single off of Jimmy Nelson in the sixth inning, it made the score 2-0. The Brewers would drive closer with a run in the seventh, but Simmons' RBI would ultimately stand as the barrier between victory and defeat. The RBI was his 18th of the year and Simmons is now hitting .248/.307/.394. He's cooled off a bit since a hot start.

Twins pitching prospect Kohl Stewart tossed seven strong innings Saturday in a win for High-A Fort Myers.

He allowed four hits and one run, striking out four with no walks. It was Stewart's first win in the Florida State League. Overall, it was his first win at any level since July 17. Stewart missed three weeks earlier this season with right elbow inflammation but didn't look any worse for the wear on Saturday. He's No. 34 on MLB.com's list of the top 100 prospects.

Miguel Cabrera doubled and hit a solo home run in five at-bats Sunday, but the Tigers lost to the Astros.

Cabrera hit a solo home run in the ninth inning, trying to help the Tigers overcome a three-run deficit, but it wasn't enough. As expected, the two-time AL MVP has done nothing but hit this season, carrying a .344/.446/.613 triple-slash line with 11 home runs and 32 RBI.
May 24 - 4:45 PM

Evan Gattis tripled, homered, knocked in three runs, and scored three runs as the Astros eked out a win in a slugfest with the Tigers on Sunday.

Gattis brought in the Astros' first two runs with a triple in the first inning and later scored on a balk. He added a solo home run in the sixth inning. The slugger's bat has heated back up as the month of May nears its end, picking his triple-slash line up to .201/.233/.435 with nine home runs and 28 RBI.

Adam Lind went 0-for-3 with a strikeout and a walk in Sunday's loss to the Braves.

Given that the Brewers managed just three hits total against Mike Foltynewicz and the Braves, Lind shouldn't feel too bad about taking the 0-for-3. The veteran first baseman has gone hit-less in his last eight at-bats, but is doing well on the macro level, with a .271/.361/.493 batting line, plus seven homers, 19 RBI and 17 runs scored.
May 24 - 4:43 PM

Drew Storen worked a scoreless ninth inning for his 14th save as the Nationals wrapped up a 4-1 victory over the Phillies on Sunday.

Storen allowed a one-out double to Grady Sizemore, but struck out Cesar Hernandez and Odubel Herrera to end the contest. The right-hander is 14-for-15 in save opportunities with a stellar 0.93 ERA and a 25/3 K/BB ratio in 19 1/3 innings.
May 24 - 4:40 PM

Collin Cowgill was scratched from Sunday's game against the Red Sox after he hurt his top hand while swinging in batting practice pregame.

He was sent out for precautionary X-rays which came back negative. Cowgill has also been battling back tightness in recent days, which many had thought was the reason for his late scratch from Sunday's lineup. He should be considered day-to-day and looks as though he'll avoid a trip to the disabled list.
