Jose Bautista socked a two-run homer Friday against the Dodgers.

The blast broke a scoreless tie in the sixth inning and landed in the second deck in left field. Bautista has shown his standard patience and power while amassing six home runs and 22 RBI, but he’s hitting just .217 so far. His strikeouts are up a bit in the early going, but we’re not worried about the veteran slugger.

Carl Crawford went 2-for-4 with an RBI double and a run scored Friday against the Blue Jays.

The Dodgers couldn’t get anything going against Marcus Stroman until Joc Pederson and Crawford delivered back-to-back doubles in the seventh inning. The veteran outfielder was just 2-for-17 (.118) over his first six games off the disabled list, so this was nice to see. Still, with the various moving parts in the Dodgers’ lineup, he’s going to have to perform to find significant playing time.

Yordano Ventura was hit hard in Friday's loss to the Indians, allowing five runs on six hits in just four innings of work.

Ventura struggled badly with his command, issuing five free passes while striking out three in the outing. The Indians scratched out a run in the first against him, then broke the game open with a four-spot in the third. He'll look to improve upon a disappointing 4.65 ERA and 1.58 WHIP when he takes on the Yankees in New York on Wednesday.

Giants designated RHP Vin Mazzaro for assignment.

The 29-year-old right-hander had a night that will haunt him forever on Thursday, surrendering nine runs (seven earned) on six hits and a walk in just 1/3 of an inning. Provided he passes through waivers unclaimed, he'll continue to serve as organizational bullpen dept at Triple-A.

The Cardinals announced Friday that Carlos Martinez was lifted from his start against the Pirates due to fatigue.

He will be reassessed on Saturday. It's certainly encouraging news that there doesn't appear to be an injury at play here for the young right-hander, and it sounds as though he could stay on track to make his next scheduled start. Look for an update on his status on Saturday.
May 6 - 10:05 PM

Eduardo Escobar was forced to leave Friday's game against the White Sox with a strained left groin.

The injury doesn't appear to be serious, but it wouldn't be surprising to see him sit out a game or two as a precautionary measure. Look for Eduardo Nunez to see extra action in his stead if he's forced to miss any time.
May 6 - 9:35 PM

John Shea of the San Francisco Chronicle reports that the Angels are one of many teams that have legitimate interest in signing Tim Lincecum.

Lincecum proved his health by all accounts during his showcase on Friday, and the Angels have been slammed with injuries in their rotation, so there seems to be a solid fit. The right-hander also prefers to pitch on the West Coast.

Carlos Martinez was forced to leave Friday's start against the Pirates with an apparent injury.

Martinez looked uncomfortable for much of the fourth inning before he was finally lifted for Tyler Lyons. It's unclear exactly what the injury is, but it may have been an oblique issue. The Cardinals should have an update on his status soon.
