Yordano Ventura (hand) is expected to skip his final rehab start and rejoin the Royals' rotation, likely on Thursday versus the Rays.
Ventura had been pegged to take the ball on Monday for Triple-A Omaha in a final tune-up, but it appears the club has decided he doesn't need that outing. "He's ready," manager Ned Yost said. Ventura has been on the shelf since mid-June with ulnar neuritis in his pitching hand.
Justin Masterson will pitch out of the bullpen for the remainder of the first half.
The Red Sox don't need a fifth starter during the remaining week. With Masterson being used in relief, Wade Miley will move up to pitch Tuesday and Rick Porcello will take the ball Wednesday.
Tsuyoshi Wada (shoulder) will begin a rehab assignment with Double-A Tennessee on Monday.
Wada is just two weeks removed from his last start, so he might need just the one rehab outing before being activated. Clayton Richard is currently filling in as the Cubs' fifth starter.
Andrew Miller (forearm) will begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Monday.
He's slated to throw up to 25 pitches. The Yankees haven't revealed how many rehab appearances Miller will require, but he could just need the one. The reliever has missed nearly a month with a strained left forearm.
Derek Norris is not in the Padres' lineup Sunday.
Norris played Saturday despite a sprained left AC joint, but he'll get a breather in this one. Austin Hedges is behind the dish.
Justin Upton is absent from the Padres' lineup Sunday.
It appears to simply be a day of rest. Will Venable is in left field with Upton out.
Anthony Rizzo is not in the Cubs' lineup Sunday.
He's getting a breather ahead of the club's big four-game series with the Cardinals early this week. Mike Baxter is at first base with Rizzo out.
Cubs optioned OF Matt Szczur to Triple-A Iowa.
Szczur has managed just a .211/.246/.316 batting line during his multiple stints in the majors this season. He's making way for the return of Jorge Soler (ankle).
