The Braves are expected to recall Manny Banuelos from Triple-A Gwinnett on Thursday to make his major league debut versus the Nationals.

He'll be taking Williams Perez's (foot) spot in the rotation. Acquired from the Yankees over the offseason in the David Carpenter deal, Banuelos holds a 2.29 ERA and 69/38 K/BB ratio over 82 2/3 innings for Gwinnett this season. His stay might be short, but he's worth a look in NL-only leagues.

Sonny Gray remains hospitalized due to the flu.

Gray, who had to be scratched from Tuesday's scheduled outing, first started feeling under the weather Monday night and is still being taken care of. Athletics manager Bob Melvin did say the righty is feeling better, but it was too soon to tell when he'd be ready to start again.
Jun 30 - 7:27 PM

James Paxton (finger) played catch from 60 feet on Tuesday.

It's a nice step, but Mariners manager Lloyd McClendon cautioned that it's "going to be a slow process" for Paxton. "Pax is going to be out for a while," the skipper added. It's not a surprise, as Bob Dutton of the Tacoma News Tribune speculated last week that the lefty returning prior to August would be "optimistic."

Josh Reddick is not in the Athletics' lineup Tuesday.

Reddick is a little banged up, and with Rockies throwing lefty Jorge De La Rosa, it was a good opportunity to sit him. He'll be available off the bench. Sam Fuld is in right field in his place.
Jun 30 - 7:20 PM

John Axford was not listed on the Rockies' lineup card prior to Tuesday's game.

Chris Cotillo of MLBDailyDish.com hears that his absence isn't related to an injury or trade and that the Rockies will "release something soon" about the reliever. Axford had to miss time earlier this season when his son, Jameson, was bitten by a rattlesnake, so hopefully it's not related to that. An update on Axford should come shortly.
Jun 30 - 7:14 PM

Nationals manager Matt Williams said Tuesday that Anthony Rendon (quad) is "still a few days away" from running fielding grounders.

Rendon has been able to continue hitting since being placed on the disabled list last Friday. There won't be any news on his potential timetable until he's able to run. He's eligible to return just before the All-Star break but almost surely will be held back at least until the start of the second half.
Jun 30 - 7:09 PM

Aaron Barrett (biceps) will begin a rehab assignment with High-A Potomac on Wednesday.

It's not clear how many rehab games he might need, but Barrett should be ready to rejoin the Nationals' bullpen soon. He's been out for over two weeks with a right biceps strain.
Jun 30 - 7:06 PM

Ryan Zimmerman (foot) went through a full workout on Tuesday, hitting, fielding grounders and doing some running.

He'll go through a similar workout on Wednesday before being re-evaluated. It's possible at that point Zimmerman will be cleared to begin a rehab assignment, as it would appear he could be activated by next week. "He hasn’t hit a groundball to short and had to run full-speed to first yet, so that’s the telling sign," Nationals manager Matt Williams said. "There’s no way to simulate that unless you get in a game situation and it happens naturally and he reacts. Going five steps to his left to dive for a ball or having to turn first to third, you can’t do it, you can’t simulate that, it’s never the same as being in competition."
