Athletics recalled RHP Chad Smith from Triple-A Nashville.
Smith earned the promotion after posting a 2.31 ERA over eight relief appearances at Nashville. He'll be used in the middle innings.
Athletics optioned RHP Ryan Cook to Triple-A Nashville.
Cook was hammered for five runs over 4 1/3 innings during his week up with the big club. Chad Smith has taken his spot in the bullpen.
Ryan Flaherty (groin) will begin a rehab assignment with Double-A Bowie on Monday.
He's on track to be activated from the disabled list when first eligible on Friday. Flaherty is hitting .300/.400/.600 with a couple homers over nine games this season.
J.J. Hardy (shoulder) will begin a rehab assignment with Double-A Bowie on Monday.
He'll play three games for the Baysox and then will likely be activated from the disabled list on Friday if all goes well. Hardy has been out all season with a left shoulder strain but has made progress recently after being given a cortisone injection.
Kolten Wong is absent from the Cardinals' lineup Sunday.
Wong suffered a minor wrist injury on Saturday, but he stayed the game so this just looks like a day off. Pete Kozma is at second base Sunday in his place.
Tyler Flowers is not in the White Sox' lineup Sunday.
It's simply a routine day off. Geovany Soto is behind the plate Sunday in Flowers' place.
Adam Eaton (illness) remained out of the White Sox' lineup Sunday.
He's now poised to miss the entire three-game set in Minnesota. Eaton should be ready to go after Monday's off day. J.B. Shuck is in center field again Sunday in Eaton's place.
Hyun-Jin Ryu (shoulder) is expected to throw live batting practice at some point this week.
Ryu has been throwing off a mound for a week and is nearing the next step. A rehab assignment will be just around the corner after he faces hitters. Ryu is still weeks away from a return, but he's finally showing some real progress. The Dodgers could really use him after losing Brandon McCarthy (elbow).
