Making his first appearance in the majors since April 2016, Glen Perkins was charged with two runs in one-third of an inning Thursday against the Indians.

Perkins gave up a pair of singles, but more damaging was the two hit batsman; he grazed Carlos Santana's jersey with a fastball and hit Yan Gomes in the foot with a slider. His velocity was solidly in the 90-92 mph range and his slider had some action, so once he gets his feet wet, he could contribute.

Jason Kipnis went 3-for-5 with a homer and two RBI against the Twins in the first game of Thursday's doubleheader.

Kipnis has homered in back-to-back games after going 24 games without one.

Byron Buxton homered, walked and scored twice in the first game of Thursday's doubleheader against the Indians.

Buxton is hitting .319 with two homers, nine RBI and four steals in 15 games since coming off the disabled list. Maybe it's time for the Twins to try elevating him in the lineup. Paul Molitor got himself burnt by opening the year with Buxton in the third spot, but Buxton has been a solid OBP guy since late April and he's very good when he's on base.

Patrick Corbin came one out shy of a four-hit shutout as the Diamondbacks beat the Astros 4-0 on Thursday.

As if that wasn't impressive enough, he worked around three errors today (two of which came on the same play). He had a three-hitter going when Yuli Gurriel doubled with two outs in the ninth. Torey Lovullo came out to get him then and went to Archie Bradley for the final out. Corbin, a real disappointment for 2 1/2 months, has a 3.13 ERA and a 78/18 K/BB ratio over 72 innings in his last 12 starts.

Mike Fiers lost after allowing three runs -- two earned -- in 5 1/3 innings Thursday against the Diamondbacks.

Fiers is 0-4 with a 7.36 ERA in his last five starts. The Astros were going to bump Brad Peacock from the rotation when Collin McHugh returned last month, but since they lost Lance McCullers, they never had to make the decision. Now it's clear that if someone is going to be bumped, whether it's for a trade acquisition or perhaps McCullers' return next month, it should be Fiers.

Daniel Descalso hit his seventh homer of the year Thursday in the win over the Astros.

Against right-handers anyway, Diamondbacks manager Torey Luvullo seems to prefer Descalso to Brandon Drury at second base at the moment. Drury has been the better hitter, but only by a bit. He's also graded out better defensively this year, though that too isn't exactly definitive. Descalso is hitting .240/.340/.400 in 258 at-bats.

Aroldis Chapman (hamstring) threw a bullpen session on Thursday.

Chapman also did some running in the outfield and didn't seem to be favoring his injured hamstring. The Yankees are confident he'll avoid the disabled list, though he won't be available out of the pen Thursday against the Mets. David Robertson will continue to handle save chances while Chapman works through his hamstring issue.

Starlin Castro (hamstring) is set to begin a minor league rehab assignment with Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

Castro got the green light after making it through batting practice earlier in the week. He landed on the DL last month after aggravating a pre-existing hamstring injury. Ronald Torreyes has been covering for him at second base.
