Packers director of player personnel Brian Gutekunst has withdrawn his name from the 49ers' general manager search.

Just like Packers colleague Eliot Wolf, Gutekunst signed a new deal to remain in Green Bay. The 49ers' GM search might be down to George Paton and Terry McDonough. Kyle Shanahan is expected to command final say and 49ers CEO Jed York isn't well liked, explaining San Francisco's struggle to attract GM candidates.

Packers C J.C. Tretter underwent knee surgery on Tuesday.

Tretter started the first seven games of the season before suffering a sprained MCL. He hasn't played since. Corey Linsley has been starting at the pivot. Tretter is done for the year and is headed for free agency.

Coach Mike McCarthy said all three of Jordy Nelson (ribs), Davante Adams (ankle), and Geronimo Allison (hamstring) could be game-time decisions for the NFC Championship game.

Nelson sat out practice on Friday due to an illness, but McCarthy said he did more than expected at practice on Thursday and has a chance to play. Adams twisted his ankle in the Divisional Round, while Allison came down with a pulled hammy. At least one or two of them will have to play Sunday.

Second-year NT D.J. Reader is expected to replace Vince Wilfork as the starter in 2017.

Wilfork is expected to retire. The No. 166 overall pick in last year's draft, Reader played 477 snaps as a rookie and made eight starts. "Reader is one of the better young defensive linemen I've been around in the NFL," coach Bill O'Brien said. "He's a really good young player that has a really good future."

Impending free agent DE Charles Johnson wants to re-sign with the Panthers.

Johnson will turn 31 this summer and will likely be open to taking another bargain one-year deal to return to the team. He played for $3 million this past season, and his play has fallen off in recent years while he's struggled to stay healthy. Johnson has missed 10 games the past two years while recording just five sacks. Defensive end is a major need for GM Dave Gettleman.

Bryan Broaddus of the Cowboys' official website believes retirement is a serious possibility for Tony Romo this offseason.

Romo has already said he plans to keep playing, but that could always change as he closes in on his 37th birthday, is coming off multiple back injuries, and is being squeezed out of Dallas. Jerry Jones' main goal is to send Romo to a place he wants to play, so we ultimately expect him to play at least another year.

Ravens ILB Zachary Orr is retiring from the NFL after three seasons.

Just yesterday, CBS Sports' Jason La Canfora reported the Ravens had made "considerable progress" on a contract extension with Orr, as the former UDFA's deal was set to expire. The 24-year-old started 15 games last season, before missing Week 17 with a herniated disc in his neck. NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports the injury is why Orr is walking away. The Ravens tried to "talk him out of it" but were apparently unsuccessful.

The Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel's Bob McGinn believes current Chiefs GM John Dorset is the "best bet" to eventually replace Packers GM Ted Thompson.

Both Dorsey and Thompson are contractually obligated to their respective teams through the 2018 draft, but there's been talk of Thompson changing roles within the organization. The Chiefs probably wouldn't let Dorsey out of his contract for a lateral move. But Dorsey likely would be open to running the show in Green Bay after coming up through the organization before going to K.C.
