Eduardo Rodriguez held the Blue Jays to one run in six innings to earn the win on Tuesday.
The lone run came around in the fourth inning on Chris Colabello's RBI single. It was one of only four hits Rodriguez allowed on the evening along with two walks and four strikeouts. It was a nice bounce-back effort as he was shelled in his previous outing. The rookie carries a 3.92 ERA with a 1.11 WHIP and a 36/13 K/BB ratio over 41 1/3 innings. He'll match up with the Astros in a home start next.
Shawn Tolleson allowed a run but still grabbed his 11th save as the Rangers hung on for an 8-6 win against the Orioles on Tuesday.
Tolleson got two quick outs on ground outs, but walked J.J. Hardy. Hardy moved to second on defensive indifference, then Travis snider knocked him in with a single to right field. Tolleson bounced back and struck out Ryan Flaherty to end the game. The right-hander has yet to blow a save in 11 chances and now has a 2.67 ERA wtih a 34/7 K/BB ratio over 33 2/3 innings.
Asdrubal Cabrera had an RBI double and a run scored in Tuesday's loss to the Indians.
Cabrera's hit was just the second of the game for the Rays, who were kept mostly in check by Indians starter Danny Salazar. The run batted in and run scored gave Cabrera 20 RBI and 24 runs scored on the year. He's hitting just .226/.280/.357 overall.
Pirates sent OF Jose Tabata outright to Triple-A Indianapolis.
He cleared waivers after being designated for assignment. Tabata has the right to declare free agency, but that won't happen since it would mean forfeiting his $4 million salary.
Rays designated RHP Ronald Belisario for assignment.
Belisario posted a 7.88 ERA over six appearances for the big club. He'll likely clear waivers but will have the chance to declare free agency if he wants.
Miguel Gonzalez suffered a loss on Tuesday against the Rangers after allowing six runs in 4 1/3 innings.
Three home runs accounted for four of those runs, with Mitch Moreland knocking in two with a long ball in the second inning followed by solo home runs in the fourth inning by Robinson Chirinos and Shin-Soo Choo. Gonzalez gave up eight hits overall while walking three and striking out one. Statistically, it is arguably his worst start of the season. He owns a 4.04 ERA with a 1.23 WHIP and a 64/27 K/BB ratio over 82 1/3 innings. Gonzalez will toe the rubber in Chicago against the White Sox in his next start.
Rays optioned RHP Kirby Yates to Triple-A Durham.
Yates allowed two runs over two-thirds of an inning Tuesday to push his ERA up to 6.14. The Rays will announce a corresponding move on Wednesday.
Michael Bourn went 2-for-4 with a stolen base against the Rays on Tuesday.
Bourn was the only player on either team with multiple hits in the game. The steal was his sixth of the year and first since June 4. A brutal month of June has lowered Bourn's average to .228 with a .298 on-base percentage overall.
