Mariners released RHP Justin Germano.

He and left-hander Rafael Perez both opted out of their minor league contracts. Germano pitched well for Triple-A Tacoma, recording a 2.83 ERA over 18 outings before his release. The 32-year-old has made 96 major league appearances with seven different teams.

Mariners released LHP Rafael Perez.

Perez exercised the opt-out clause in his minor league contract. The 33-year-old went 5-5 with a 1.99 ERA over 13 starts for Triple-A Quintana Roo. He hasn't pitched in the majors since 2012.

Padres prospect RHP Colin Rea has been promoted to Triple-A El Paso.

Rea is moving up the minor league’s highest level after an excellent first half at Double-A San Antonio in which he posted a 1.08 ERA, 0.81 WHIP, .185 opponents’ batting average, and 60/11 strikeout-to-walk ratio in 75 innings (12 starts). It’s been far and away the best season of the 25-year-old right-hander’s career, as he owns a 3.32 ERA, 1.33 WHIP, 3.5 BB/9 and 7.6 K/9 in 456 innings (117 appearances/86 starts) across the last five seasons. Rea lacks upside but could emerge as a quality back-end starter for the Padres later in the season.

Rockies prospect 2B Forrest Wall (shoulder) was placed on the disabled list at Low-A Asheville on June 30.

Wall, 19, is in the middle of a strong full-season debut in South Atlantic League, batting .258/.342/.426 with six home runs, seven doubles, eight triples and 37 RBI to go along with 16 stolen bases in 23 attempts. And considering Asheville’s home park heavily favors left-handed hitters, it is good to see Wall has balanced home (.774 OPS) and road (.762 OPS) splits. Wall is among the top second-base prospects in the minor leagues.

Royals prospect RHP Kyle Zimmer has been promoted to Double-A Northwest Arkansas.

Zimmer’s season didn’t begin until late May as a result of setbacks in his recovery from a shoulder injury. However, the 22-year-old right-hander has been sharp over the last month while working out of the bullpen for Low-A Lexington, posting a 1.13 ERA, 1.06 WHIP and 21/6 strikeout-to-walk ratio in 16 innings (nine appearances). He’ll now return to the Texas League, where he made four outstanding starts (18 2/3 IP, 1.93 ERA, 27/5 K/BB) at the end of the 2013 season. Zimmer has struggled to stay healthy during his career, but the 2012 first-rounder's upside is still huge.

Matt Harrison (back) said he's ready to return to the Rangers' starting rotation.

He scattered three runs over six innings Wednesday in his sixth rehab start for Triple-A Round Rock. Harrison's 30-day rehab window expires on Thursday so the Rangers have to make a decision on where he'll make his next start. They could go with a six-man rotation and address the situation after the All-Star break. Rookie Chi Chi Gonzalez has lost three of his last four starts and could be the odd man out when Harrison returns.

The Astros will call up OF Alex Presley from Triple-A Fresno.

He's expected to replace George Springer, who left Wednesday night's game with a bruised wrist. The 29-year-old appeared in 89 games for Houston last season, batting .244 with six homers and 19 RBI. In 244 at-bats for Fresno this season, Presley has hit .308 with 10 steals and 35 RBI.
Jul 2 - 12:44 PM

Twins recalled INF Miguel Sano from Double-A Chattanooga.

Sano will take over as the Twins' regular designated hitter in Thursday's series opener against the Royals. The 22-year-old was sporting a .918 OPS with 15 home runs and 48 RBI in 66 games this season at the Double-A level and he's a must-own in all standard fantasy leagues for his massive power potential.
