Rays prospect Hunter Wood struck out 10 hitters in just under eight innings on Wednesday for Double-A Montgomery.

In his 7 2/3 innings of work, Wood allowed just four hits and two runs. He also walked two, and, of course, struck out 10. A 2013 29th-round selection, Wood has two plus pitches in a fastball that gets up to 97 mph and hard breaking curveball. He'll need either his cutter or change to get to average, and he also needs to do a better job of keeping the ball in the park. If he can, he can start. If not, he could be a very good reliever.

Nationals prospect Victor Robles homered on Wednesday for High-A Potomac.

It's the fifth homer of the season for Robles. The power tool is actually the "worst" of Robles projected skill set, but he's shown that he's certainly not a dink-and-dunk hitter by any stretch of the imagination. He should get a chance to face Double-A pitching this year, and he's on his way for a 2018 debut.
May 25 - 12:46 PM

Yankees prospect Domingo Acevedo pitched 7 1/3 shutout innings for Double-A Trenton on Wednesday.

Acevedo allowed just three hits in his start, and he struck out nine while walking no one. Since being promoted to Double-A, he has pitched 13 2/3 scoreless innings, walked two and struck out 14. There's a lot of effort in his delivery, but the stuff is legit, especially his 80-grade fastball. Be it in relief or as a starter, he's going to miss a lot of bats.
May 25 - 12:41 PM

Cardinals catching prospect Carson Kelly went 1-for-3 with a homer on Wednesday for Triple-A Memphis.

It was the sixth homer of his 2017 season, and he's now slugging .529 on the season. Kelly has been excellent with the bat this spring, and he's arguably the best defensive backstop in minor-league baseball. He's one of the best trade chips on the market, which is good, because with Yadier Molina's contract, he's not relevant to the Cardinals. If you have him on your dynasty team, hope that a trade comes soon.
May 25 - 12:35 PM

Braves prospect Mike Soroka struck out 10 hitters while allowing just one run on Wednesday for Double-A Mississippi.

Soroka gave up just one run in his 5 2/3 innings, allowing three hits and two walks to go along with the aforementioned strikeouts. The 2015 first-round selection now has an ERA of 2.98 ERA and is striking out over a batter an inning. Oh, and he's still a teenager. Soroka has a chance to be an excellent fantasy starting pitcher.
May 25 - 12:29 PM

Reds prospect Jesse Winker reached base four times on Wednesday for Triple-A Louisville.

Winker went 2-for-3 on the afternoon, and also reached twice via walk. He also stole his first base of the year, which is fun. It'd be nice to see him start hitting for power, but it's looking more and more likely that's not going to happen. He can really hit, however, and his batting average and on-base percentages should make him fantasy relevant.
May 25 - 12:23 PM

Cardinals prospect Luke Weaver gave up two runs in five innings of work on Wednesday for Triple-A Memphis.

It was easily Weaver's worst start of 2017, but that speaks more to how well he's pitched than it does to the outing. He did give up six hits and three walks, but he was able to limit the damage to just those two runs. The lack of a quality breaking-ball limits the value, but with his fastball and change, he can still be effective at the big-league level.
May 25 - 12:16 PM

Christian Arroyo has been added to the Giants' starting lineup for Thursday's game against the Cubs.

Arroyo was to be benched initially, but he's needed at third base with Eduardo Nunez nursing a tweaked hamstring. Arroyo is going to have to start hitting or he could lose playing time, possibly even his roster spot.
