Tyler Glasnow gave up three runs -- two earned -- and punched out nine batters in four innings as the Pirates beat the Tigers 5-4 on Saturday.

Perhaps most importantly he walked only one batter. Glasnow has endured major difficulties with the base-on-balls in his young career but strikeouts have never been a problem. It remains to be seen whether he will head north as a member of the Pirates' starting rotation or will begin the season at Triple-A. The elite prospect registered a 1.87 ERA with 133 strikeouts in 110 2/3 innings at Triple-A last year.

Corey Dickerson went 1-for-3 with a solo home run in Saturday's loss to the Red Sox.

It was his fourth homer of the spring. He owns a .367 batting average in 49 at-bats. He needs a strong Grapefruit League campaign to cement his role as an everyday player for the Rays. He hit .245/.293/.469 with 24 home runs and 70 RBI in 148 games in 2016.

Jeff Wilson of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports the Rangers have "tabled" extension talks with Jonathan Lucroy.

Wilson also had nothing to report on talks with Yu Darvish. Without extensions, both players will hit the market next winter. The two-time All-Star hit .267 while splitting time with Buster Posey behind the plate for Team USA at the World Baseball Classic. He'll earn $5.25 million in the last year of his deal.

Blake Snell was hit with four earned run in 4 2/3 innings during a loss to the Red Sox on Saturday.

He gave up six hits and one walk while fanning three. The big blow was a three-run jack by Pablo Sandoval. Snell has struggled this spring, limping along with a 6.16 ERA after 19 innings of work. As a rookie last year he put up a 3.54 ERA in 19 starts, logging 98 strikeouts and 51 walks in 89 innings. There is no quarantee he will start the season in the majors.

Kennys Vargas will undergo more testing on his bruised left foot.

Vargas fouled a ball off his left foot in Friday's Grapefruit League game against the Orioles. He's been getting around on crutches and still can't put any weight on his foot. "I can’t imagine him being ready here too quickly," said manager Paul Molitor. Vargas' availability for Opening Day looks to be in doubt.

Pablo Sandoval smashed a three-run homer in a 7-5 win over the Rays on Saturday.

He finished 1-for-4 on the afternoon. He hit the home run off Blake Snell in the fifth inning. Sandoval was terrible in 2015 and missed all but three games of 2016 with a shoulder injury. The Red Sox took some heat over the winter for not bringing in an alternative to Sandoval at the hot corner. So far he has justified their faith in him, notching a .353 batting average with four home runs in 51 at-bats.

Rusney Castillo went 3-for-4, scored two runs and drove in a run in a split-squad game against the Rays on Saturday.

He was benched early in camp for failing to run out a ground-out, but has flourished ever since. He is now rocking a .368 batting average with two home runs in 40 at-bats. He is unlikely to start the season with the major league club but may have done enough to earn himself the first shot when an opportunity arises.
Mar 25 - 5:57 PM

Tommy Joseph went 2-for-3 and scored a run against the Red Sox on Saturday.

He missed a few games after getting hit in the hand with a pitch last week. He is batting .260 with two longballs in 50 spring at-bats. He will be the Phillies starting first baseman this year after sharing time at the position with Ryan Howard last year. Joseph hit .257/.308/.505 with 21 home runs and 47 RBI in 347 plate appearances in 2016.
