Chiefs WR Donnie Avery needs sports hernia surgery.

Oct 2 - 12:51 PM

Joique Bell (concussion) remains in the concussion protocol.

Bell was in the locker room with his teammates Thursday, a sign he's made some progress. He remains questionable for Sunday's game against the Bills. If Bell can't go, Reggie Bush would get a bump as he'd only be complemented by Theo Riddick and George Winn.
Oct 2 - 12:45 PM

Jonathan Stewart (knee) is not in pads Thursday.

We don't know yet if Stewart will be listed as "limited" in practice or "DNP." Either way, he's not taking contact. Even if Stewart is somehow active Sunday, he'd only handle a portion of the workload while splitting time with Darrin Reaves.
Oct 2 - 12:43 PM

Lions WR T.J. Jones (PUP, shoulder) said he has no medical restrictions right now.

Jones is eligible to come off PUP in Week 7. The sixth-round rookie will compete with Jeremy Ross and Corey Fuller for a backup role. Ryan Broyles has seen just four snaps all year.
Oct 2 - 12:28 PM

The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel's Tyler Dunne said to expect a lot of James Starks in Thursday night's game against the Vikings.

Starks oddly played one snap in Week 4 and received zero carries. Expect that to change this week, especially if the heavily favored Packers get a lead. Dunne says the goal is 25-30 rushing attempts for the team and it's reasonable to think Starks can get around 10 of those. He's impressively averaged 5.46 YPC over the last two seasons while Eddie Lacy has plodded to 3.03 YPC so far this year.

The Vikings plan to take the Teddy Bridgewater (ankle) decision right up until 90 minutes before Thursday's kickoff.

"Teddy Bridgewater still wants to play," but the Vikings want "to make sure it limits danger," according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. Teddy is fighting a garden-variety ankle sprain sustained just four days ago. If there's any danger of making it worse at all, the Vikings should play it safe with the new face of their franchise. ESPN's Adam Schefter reported earlier signs point to Bridgewater sitting out this difficult spot at Lambeau.
Oct 2 - 11:52 AM

Roddy White practiced on a Wednesday this week for the first time all season.

It confirms White's hamstring is fully healthy heading into Week 5. He has a tough matchup on the road against an elite corner duo of Prince Amukamara and Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie, but is always a fine WR2 option as the No. 2 target for Matt Ryan.
Oct 2 - 11:48 AM

The second opinion on Carson Palmer's shoulder advised him to continue his current rehab and not undergo surgery.

Palmer met with noted orthopedic surgeon Dr. Robert Watkins in Los Angeles to get more information about the issue in his throwing shoulder. He's been diagnosed with "axillary nerve contusion," a numbness over part of the outer shoulder. It involves shoulder weakness, especially when lifting the arm up and away from the body. Palmer will continue to try to get the nerve fired up with non-surgical remedies, but no one seems to know if/when it will work. Drew Stanton appears likely to start in Denver Sunday.
